Fancy Pageant Walkin’

I just rewatched highlights (by Jed below) from Palin’s whatever-the-hell-that-was yesterday. It’s so obvious that she believes the hype. She seriously thinks she can get to the White House by lookin’ pretty and barely hurdlin’ dirt-low expectations, while refusing to become a serious leader. She thinks she can take shortcuts to the presidency.

What makes this even more ridiculous is that she appears desperate and pathetic while doing it — like a reality TV star who just can’t let go of the spotlight. And no-one has the heart to tell her that it’s over — that she can’t bullsh-t her way through the next four years without becoming a total laughing stock.

But I’m not complaining, of course. If the Republicans want to prop her up as their standard bearer, be our guest.

What’s sad is that she truly doesn’t realize how unintelligent she is. She’s achieved things, therefore she must be smarter than the rest of us mere mortals. Bush in a dress – she isn’t the type to listen to or take advice from anyone. She needs to be the smartest person in the room and when someone points out that she’s not, she decides that person is just jealous and mean.

@ceu: To understand Sarah Palin, you must understand small-town socialization. In small communities, a critic must continue living in the same small circles as the object of criticism; therefore, all social discourse takes place under a veneer of respectability. In that setting, it is a greater crime to call Sarah “stupid” than for Sarah to be stupid. Open, valid criticism of anyone threatens the veneer of fiction for everyone. No one calls the village idiot a village idiot in public.

    Heehaw, Palin is a FUCKTARD!

Good point, Matt O.Lowering the bar for expectations of intelligence and competence is the key to Republican success. I thought that Reagan was pretty stupid, and may have been suffering from the early symptoms of Alzheimer’s in his final years in office. But when W. came along, he made Reagan look like an intellectual titan.Dubya is probably the stupidest person ever to set foot in the Oval Office, but now, compared to Palin, he seems to have almost Churchillian eloquence.Their strategy is to keep producing leaders who are stupider and stupider. For one thing, low-IQ people are a large constituency in the United States, and they tend to vote along the lines of identity politics – they identify with other stupid people, and believe that stupidity is an asset in leadership. “Book-learnin’” is a deeply suspicious activity.Anti-intellectualism is the core value of the Republican Party, more important even than conservatism.

Sarah Palin is a godsend (if you’ll pardon the expression). I see her as the catalyst to quicken the death of the GOPs. She will become a principal in the separation of the two wings of the Republic Party–economic conservatives from social conservatives. It will be the centennial of the Bull Mooses in four years. What a fitting memorial to repeat the schism. Does anyone have any Re-elect Obama-Biden signs?

The GOP old guard are in a panic. They don’t seem to have an answer to this quandry, i.e. how get rid of this prom queen. The trouble for them is that they spent eight years dumbing down their base. Now that they have the perfect fit for the base constituency they are having buyers remorse. How anyone can keep a straight face in the GOP at this point is bizarre. This woman couldn’t pass an interview for a 3rd string crossing guard. Or, perhaps a school bus driver in Idaho?

The GOP Governors’ Conference held elections for various positions and guess whose name wasn’t included? Doesn’t look like she’s the future of the Republican Party. Did you see how R-TX Rick Perry literally shoved her aside to say ‘just one more question’ even though Sarah was in her element and wanted more spotlight. Her facial expression was priceless.
