Free Market Intellectual Violence

They’re not irrelevant, and they’re not going away. Limbaugh and Hannity have coined the phrase “the Obama recession” and now it’s all over the cable news.

Our response has to be the phrase “the Bush Republican Depression.” Period.

We’re all screwed — all of us! — by this economic meltdown, which is entirely the fault of free market deregulation and Reaganomics, and they’re blaming a man who hasn’t even moved into the White House yet?! Truly insane. Look, I know it’s fun to pretend that the far-right doesn’t matter anymore, but seriously — we ignore these hooples at our own peril.

    You’re absolutely correct, Bob.

Limbaugh and his ilk became what they are by peddling hate over losing to Clinton. And they never let up with the vitriol even while there guy was in power. Now that they’ve lost to a black man the rhetoric will only get worse.

And while I know they can’t be ignored, it would be great if MSM outlets would stop playing clips of these assholes as if what they are saying is an important balance to reality.

    Remember the Superbowl.

Yeah, you know I just don’t remember hearing the MSM parroting Randi Rhodes’ counterpoint as “balance” to the Republican blather for the last 6-8 years. Odd that they have become so recently attached to the notion of balance.OK Bob, I agree with you that the party is over and it’s time to sweep up the bottles and get back to work…but what is the gameplan to counter these Reptiles? We’ve seen clearly that they are preaching to a willing choir. You laid out the logical case for the hoople doctrine today – being that these are not the sort who can be reasoned with – and we know the MSM is tied to the hip with this crowd because they are the only ones left that haven’t figured out how to skip commercials yet, so they’re gonna play to their revenue base.So how do we beat back stupidity?

  • Rod Majors

I heard Hannity use the phrase “Obama Recession” on H&C Tuesday night….Colmes and even Huckabee burst into laughter. The fans of Limpballs and Hannity have to be some of the most ignorant people ever to walk the planet if they think a guy who hasn’t even taken office yet can be responsible for an economic meltdown that has been years in the making. That’s like blaming a baby that isn’t due until January for a speeding ticket you got last month. Unbelievable.

  • blaueaugen

Mr. Cesca,How could you possibly not perceive that the so-call “far right” would react to the incessant attacks on still-President Bush during the past eight years? Your and the far left’s constant diatribes and vitriolic spew laced with innumerable vulgarities, as if to detract from actual intellectual integrity, have set the stage for at least four years of Obama attacks. By the way, even though I did not vote for Obama, I nonetheless support him as our next US President, not as the next “Democrat” President, but as the leader of our great country that has shown the world once again that democracy actually works.

  • prcleburne

I hate these c***suckers. I was a Bill Buckley conservative before I saw the light. I bet he is rolling over in his grave ( as is RR ) knowing Limbaugh, Hannity, and their ilk are considered ” conservatives.” I appreciate the intellectual honesty of true conservatives, and I hope this faction of the Republican party has the power to expunge these ” hoopleheads” ( thanks for the epithet,Bob, even if it does sound kind of lame ).We need to have a worthy and respectable opposition.

  • cminri

Blaueaugen- How could the “far left” NOT attack Bush over the last eight years? Have you been asleep? Have you not seen what 8 years of Bush and 6 years of a rubber stamp Congress has done to this country and the world? Why do you think the rest of the world is joining us in rejoicing that Obama was elected? Seems that in your mind..the only reason the “far right” is attacking Obama is because the far left has attacked Bush? Once again another false equivalency. Some attacks are earned and necessary – others are manufactured. Maybe some day you will be able to tell the difference.

Can I say Cocksuckers without the asterisks ?

  • rixxk

Let’s revisit history: the Great Depression began under Calvin Coolidge and the financial disaster was clearly his, but wait don’t most people think of Herbert Hoover, who inherited the mess, when thinking about the Great Depression ?Thus, the urgent need to have a well educated electorate.

  • Bob_Cesca

    >>So how do we beat back stupidity?Framing, framing, framing.

  • dontpanic23

    >>”Can I say Cocksuckers without the asterisks ?”Heh, in this crowd “cocksuckers” is almost like “dang”.You don’t think the wingbat corp calling this the “Obama Recession” could really stick in the heads of the sheep and hoopleheads, do you? stifling guffaw

  • blaueaugen

Cminri – For your information, I did NOT vote for Bush II, nor did/do I support most of his numerous doctrines. In my post, I was merely trying to provide some balance to all the left vs. right arguments. I do rejoice in Obama’s win, just as the Germans did when he visited this great nation – and attracted a larger crowd than any gathering for Obama in the USA.

  • MBrown

    >>”Framing, framing, framing”Bob, since I’m a little obtuse, and since this is the stuff that makes me lob kitchen utensils and lose sleep, maybe you can elaborate a little more. Framing how/with whom precisely?Apparently cocksuckery has a mysterious way of latching and catching on. Who knew!?

  • http://livefreeordie08.wordpress.com LiveFreeOrDie08

Nice MB…we’re really on a role around here inventing new terms! Cocksuckery kind of just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it!?So Bob, this framing idea suggests we have a voice in the discussion. I personally don’t spend much time in Hoopleville. Do we need to engage these folks and help enlighten them, crusades style? Or do we write off this generation and focus on the children?Seems to me we need to find a way to counter the suckery with an equal platform dedicated to truth, justice, and the American way.

But, but, what about Mott the Hoople?

  • Poleezz

The way to handle this issue is the way it’s been handled for decades. I know this isn’t popular with some of you, but the way to get to the media is through the advertiser. You stage an organized boycott of the products that are sponsoring the spew. It worked successfully for the civil rights movement and others. Many of you are too young to remember The Grape Boycott of the 60′s when Chavez and the UFW were around. It is an act of civil disobedience that is peaceful and extremely effective. That’s my 2 cents worth.

  • Poleezz

Btw blaueaugen, I hope you don’t mind if I ask, but are you a US citizen?

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Blaueaugen – we’re all glad that you are rejoicing with the rest of us and the world that, with the election of Obama, we may have turned a corner. But CM is right, your initial argument that the criticism of Bush (deservedly so) these last years “set the stage for at least four years of Obama attacks” is ludicrous.

May I remind you of some “vitriolic spew” we’ve heard before even knowing who the Democratic candidate was going to be? “Halfrican American.” “Feminazis.” It’s amazing to me that anyone of intelligence would not understand that whether Bush was criticized or not, the right would attack the Democrats no matter the outcome. That’s what they’ve done and that’s what they’ll continue to do.

To blame the current recession on the President-elect who hasn’t taken office yet, “has no experience” according to his campaign opponents because he “wasn’t on the scene” until his DNC Keynote Address in 2004, is laughable as best and at worst very, very sad – and shows you how grossly out of touch these right wing talking heads have become.

So if you expect Mr. Cesca, or anyone else who contributes to his comments threads on a regular basis, to tone down the appropriate wingnut bashing because you think the reason they are on the attack is because of criticism they’ve received, you might want to look elsewhere.

  • blaueaugen

Broadway Carl – Sorry to impose upon your space. If you or anyone else wishes to attack me personally, I can assure you I will not read it. So, just let it float around out there in cyberspace. Signing off, forever …

  • brutlyhonest

Attack you personally? By trying to help you learn? Education truly is the greatest danger to hate.

I always considered myself pretty middle of the road. I have some very conservative positions and some more liberal; for example, I’m a very law & order kind of guy, yet believe people CAN be rehabilitated and marijuana use should be as legal as alcohol use. But I was labeled a bleeding heart liberal for not blindly hating Clinton or supporting the Bush administration. Fomenting hate keeps the sheeple from thinking.

How to fight the stoopid? The true believers refuse to be swayed, so forget about them. We have to find a way to keep the regular news outlets from repeating the idiocy as if it is news. If they had any integrity left, the reporting would be how ridiculous limpballs’ (I love that btw) statements are.

  • Poleezz

Bye-bye and say hello to the fatherland or the motherland? I was simply unaware that non US citizens were allowed to vote. Whatever.

  • Poleezz

Ooops sorry. I see now that you said you didn’t vote. Thanks for trying to balance things out for us. I assure you that the attacks on Obama have nothing to do with all the attacks on GB. Remember how in Europe they had indentured servants and shit like that? And then of course there were dudes like Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini who fucked things up really bad. Well here in the US we are still working on shaking the chains of bondage off. Oh and I’m not saying the right is anything like those mad crazy dudes in Europe either. The attacks on Obama have more to do with race than they do political right and left. Thanks for your support regarding Obama.

This economic meltdown started with the collapse of sub-prime mortgages and Fannie and Freddic Mac.The Community Reinvestment act of 1977 was changed under Clinton and lending standards were loosened so people could receive a loan with no money down, and no credit or work history. These loans were then repurchased by Fannie and Freddie which were leveraged 60 to 1. Over a dozen attempts were made by Republicans to place more oversight on Fannie and Freddie Mac. The Democrats blocked every attempt. To say the meltdown is entirley the fault of Bush and deregulaiton is to show a lack of understanding or a deliberate ignorance. If banks were left on their own, they would never have loaned money to applicants who could not afford a house much less a TV. It is precisely the regulation that forced banks to make subprime loans to the poor that started this whole mess.Hakeem

  • Hakeem

Framing Framing FramingDon’t worry. The MSM will watch Obama’s back no matter what.8 years from now, they’ll still be blaminng every fault of Obama on the Bush administration.
