Good Morning

Al Franken is ahead behind by 700 votes in Minnesota, and he’s asking for a recount.

Turnout was, of course, historical. 130 million voters and counting, compared with 122 million four years ago. And Nate is reporting that the early voting hasn’t been added into the totals in places like Georgia.

And some disappointing news. While we make history and renew the spirit of freedom and equality in America, it looks as if Prop 8 might have succeeded in California — succeeded in denying some Americans of their freedom and equality.

Bob, was with you all night. Loved it. My excitement is tempered by the passing of Prop. 8.What’s going on with Georgia? None of the news channels are reporting anything yet. This is important because my family each picked toss up states we thought were going to go Obama. I picked Georgia. I gotta win.Today is an amazing day.

In Georgia, Nate Silver is reporting that the early vote hasn’t been included yet. Also, it looks like Alaska re-elected Ted Stevens. WTF?Are we looking at Senator Palin?

Bob, I could only check in on your liveblog a few times last night because I was working, but I wanted to thank you. Thank you for talking us through this, talking us down, talking us up and giving us a place to talk about our hopes and dreams, fears and frustrations. You’re a goddamn awesome host.

Colonel:Stevens re-elected.WTF indeed. As an Alaska, please accept my apology, America. The people in my state are, indeed, stupid.Know what? I’m willing to bet now, if apparent Stevens’ win stands (there are still a few precincts, absentee and challenge ballots yet to be counted) the 7-count felon will actually be seated by the US Senate! They have a poor history of policing their own ranks. If I’m wrong and they refuse to seat him, then Palin could appoint herself to fill the seat. However, in a law passed by referendum in 2004, a special election will have to be held within 90 days of the date of the vacancy. So Palin would have to run to keep the seat.Based on the massive stupidity displayed by Alaskans yesterday, I now believe she would have a solid chance of winning.I’ve lived here since the place was a territory. Prior to a statehood.New Mexico is becoming very appealing. Or even Ireland.People here are fucking morons. There is no other rational explanation.

Damn, it feels good. I’ve only got one pic up right now, got home way too late, but I shot the Rochester for Obama volunteer party last night and a bit of the Democratic headquarters celebration. The rest will be up soon, I just need my eyes to open after the wonderful combination of no sleep and tears of joy.http://flickr.com/photos/twoeightnine/

I’ve been crying tears of joy since 8:00 last night – that’s when we Californians found out that Barack Obama had won – and our polls had barely closed. As a Californian, I’m deeply disappointed about Prop 8 – I thought people had more sense in this state.

Prop 8 is a travesty and I’m besides myself about it. I don’t know what happens now. Can the California electorate just vote to take away anyone’s rights now? I’m thinking there will be a law suit filed but i just don’t know.

I’m also from California, and I’m sickened by the number of “Yes on 8″ signs there were (are) on the lawns of my neighbors. Of course, this is the central valley area, and this is a county that went for McCain, so what can I expect? I just hope we can turn this around at sometime in the future.
