Howard Stepping Down

Howard Dean is stepping down from his DNC chairmanship.

It’s a shame, but you know who might actually be better?

Mr. David Plouffe.

UPDATE: I don’t like the idea of Senator McCaskill taking his place, partly because at this point it looks like the Senate is being pillaged for talent, when, in fact, there are a few talented people who exist outside of the Senate. People who ran a hugely successful 50-state campaign. Like Plouffe.

How about Clair McCaskill? She does great in interviews and a great spokeswoman for Obama. Plouffe would be great from an opporational standpoint.

Agreed with the Senate pillaging, Bob. I love Claire McCaskill, but I would only want here there only as long as she’s there’s a someone running the day to day ops so she can remain in the Senate. We don’t need to have won a big majority in the senate only to steal all the awesome and have a bunch of special elections. Especially in uncertain territory like Missouri.

That’s why I got so pissed at John Edwards in ’04 for not keeping his senate seat while running for VP. It took and act of cong–well, Goddess or something to get a liberal democrat into that NC seat (and its subcommittees) and he was arrogant and stupid in letting it go.Raping and pillaging the senate is a bad way to go–we lost two great ones when O/B won the election. Dip no more! Please!

Agree 100%. No poaching of Senate seats unless absolutely necessary, especially in swing states—does MO have a DEm governor?Anyway, part of what made Dean so effective was his credibility as an outsider—something I think any sitting politician or DC-insider will lack.Dean built the machine, Plouff showed he could operate it. I dread the return of the controls to some party hack like McAulliffe.

Plouffe is a genius. He absolutely needs to stay involved in a leadership position. His talents will be invaluable to the Democratic Party. And McAullife? *shudder*
