Look! A Cabinet Flowchart! I’m A Geek!

US News has a super-secret leaked flowchart of Obama administration cabinet contenders (pdf).

Digby isn’t sure how real it is, but the shortlists don’t contain a lot of senators, which made me smile. As you know, I’m not a fan of pillaging the Senate of its Democrats. Oh, and Richard Clarke is on the shortlist for Homeland Security. Caroline Kennedy floated as UN Ambassador.

And if you type in the password “niessuh”, you get the flowchart for the jihadi shadow government they’re planning.

    Yep, huge geek.

It’s funny to me that Linda Darling Hammond is not on that list for Education secy. She’s been an adviser to Obama for some time. She commands the respect of teachers and policy wonks alike because of her unique combined experience as an educator as well as a political adviser. Powell would be sure to kill any possibility of teacher support since they already don’t care for Obama’s talk of supporting NCLB. Duncan is a little more favorable. Jim Hunt is just a politician and in no way compares to Darling Hammond on qualifications for an education secy that would be any different than all the previous people appointed to that position. If Obama is going to represent a change from the way things have been done for too long, it’s time for him to make education more than political by not appointing a politician and certainly not a retired general.

Colin Powell is more than just a retired general – that’s just his most famous role. He is also founder of America’s Promise: http://www.americaspromise.org/APA.aspxQT

There’s NO WAY that thing is real at all. But I like what I see…

Wow cool! But Bob, that’s some ugly powerpoint action, I gotta say. I’m concerned about the Witt appointment–and why is Clarke near the bottom below JL Witt? Seriously, James Lee Witt? No. Please. He was head of FEMA when I worked there, and christ, what a dolt. Straight outta Arkansas and truly witless. Big mistake–are they trying to buy off the Clinton’s with appointments? Jesus, I hope at least that part ain’t real.

I realize he is the founder of America’s Promise, and that’s great, but that still doesn’t give him the insight someone like Linda Darling Hammond has. I didn’t intend to demean Powell by referring to him only as a retired general, but I still hold a grudge regarding his use of cartoons at the UN to argue for the Iraq war and on top of that the idea that anyone associated with the Bush administration or anyone who has not been active in education through their entire career being appointed sec. of ed. looks like the same damn politics we’ve always dealt with.

Yeah, it’s not real. I know for a fact that someone who has been approached isn’t on the list. But I’m sure a lot of it reflects educated guesses.
