Matthews for Senate?

When Chris Matthews said, “I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work,” it was all about a potential senate run. In fact, we’ll find very few anti-Obama remarks on Hardball until (and if) Matthews announces he’s not going to run. The short explanation is that if Matthews wants to unseat Arlen Specter, he’s going to need the White House.

And a new PPP poll shows that Matthews only needs to pick up 13 points to match Specter.

The poll — conducted by Public Policy Polling — showed Specter leading Matthews 40 percent to 27 percent in a hypothetical 2010 general election matchup.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m hoping that Pennsylvania Democrats can do a lot better than Chris Matthews.

Could be interesting. Some hard-core Republicans hate Specter for being a RINO (in their view), and Specter ticked a lot of people off with his “hoping for the Bradley effect” comments towards the end of the presidential race.

Matthews giving up his million(s) dollar a year paycheck? Why?

I think Matthews could do way more good for the country by just staying where he is and calling out people on their bullshit and exposing hacks for what they are.

Yep. The Senate isn’t the place for Chris. This leads to the question, who’s taking over MTP?I know Chris has his detractors, but I think he could mature into a very solid host for MTP. He has somewhat the same pedigree as Tim had, having come from Government to the media. He has the contacts, and the ability to control the conversation when needed. He respected Tim, and I think he would work to honor his legacy…something I’m not seeing much of from Brokaw, sadly.Given the choices I think Chris makes the most sense, and is someone I could stand to watch.
