Morning Awesome

One of the funniest scenes from Planes, Trains & Automobiles, directed by the great John Hughes. The best Thanksgiving movie ever made, and one of the most underrated comedies of all time.

Years ago, when I first showed my daughter this movie on Thanksgiving Day, she sort of stared blankly at it — laughed at some of the funny parts, but mostly appeared to not get what was happening in the story. Hell, she was maybe five years old at the time (don’t worry, we skipped the classic Edie McClurg f-bomb scene).

But hours later, while we were all enjoying Thanksgiving dinner, she suddenly burst into uncontrollable fits of sobbing. Startled, we asked her why she was crying, and through her tears she replied, “Because Del Griffith doesn’t have a HOME!” That’s a true story. Awesome.

She sounds exactly like my little girl who cared more about things like that–pointing out wrongs and being truly hurt by them–than any story line. Today I find out if anyone let her near the tv when the Palin massacre was going on. She’s 23 but hasn’t changed. Little girls could be the healing power of the universe if allowed.Been a few years since I watched this one. “Her first baby? Came out sideways *gaak*”. Killer stuff.

Kids are awesome. Your daughter sounds much more poignant and sentimental than my 9 year old Girlie, who asked me THIS:”Mom, do we have any honey-roasted nutsacks?”I tried to punish her, but I was laughing too hard.
