Rejecting The Dark Side

Josh Marshall echoes my thoughts from earlier this week:

We’ll always have a national dark side. But some signal needs to be sent, at least for a while, that this sort of filth, his character assassination and appeals to race hatred is not an effective life raft for desperate opportunists looking to save themselves by degrading this country. A McCain defeat would go some way to accomplishing that.

Exactly. To put it precisely, we’re not only voting for Senator Obama, we voting to reject the McCain-Palin-Bush politics of fear and division. We have a moral obligation to show up en masse to do this. As I wrote on the Huffington Post this week, it’s mandatory.

Bob,I know it’s off-topic, but since you’re a Huffington Post blogger, I need to vent to SOMEONE, and then ask a favor.I have tried, several times now, to post a comment about Lady Lynn de Rothschild’s Huffington Post blog about why she doesn’t like Obama’s economic plan. The gist of my comment was this: Though Lady de Rothschild has made a lot of money with her own companies, nevertheless she was born into wealth, and married even greater wealth. Her spin on anyone’s economic plan is moot. If it doesn’t favor people in her income bracket, it must be bad (which is, of course, the opposite of what she said when she was touting Hillary Clinton). Lady de Rothschild has never had to take a second job to pay for medical insurance for her ailing mother, or had to juggle bills to keep the lights on and food on the table for her kids. It’s a lot easier to climb the ladder when you start out near the top.It was not an ad hominem attack, I merely pointied out that she has always lived in the rarified atmosphere of the the incredibly wealthy. On that front, she’s more out of touch than even John McCain. At this point, I don’t care if my comments ever gets posted, but can you ask someone how the HuffPo censor(s) decide what gets posted?I’ve seen far more incendiary stuff than mine slide by.One of the things that attracted me to your blog was reading your posts, and I remember at one point, you calling the Cheny/Wolfowitz crowd a bunch of ratfuckers. Now, I now you are The Bob, but still, it seems there is little consistency in scrubbing comments at the Huffington Post. Thanks for listening.

@Packyfwiw, I had a problem there once too. They have an automated system that’s got a few logic traps in it that are counter-intuitive. One of them is (used to be) that if you post too frequently you’ll be flagged as a potential spammer and suspended. If you send an email to the moderator they’ll review your stuff and likely retroactively post it.

It’s happened to me on a number of occasions, too, Packy & I’m not an especially incendiary type of person. Hell, I even got banned for a while back in the early spring and when I inquired about it, no one could tell me why, although they did reinstate my account. It’s very inconsistent, yet they are dealing with a huge number of commenters so who knows what’s going on. I assume you tried to post more than once??On topic….we’re going to vote on Tuesday on whether our country can ever again be the way the founders intended or if it’s to continue on a reactionary course that the Constitution sought to avoid. It’s the most important election in our lifetimes and everyone who can MUST vote. period.

Thanks, Ceu & LFOD. I feel better now, I just had to whine.I’ve already voted. There are 3 more progressive voters in my household, one of which has already voted, the other two are going on Tuesday.Unfortunately, I don’t expect Obama to carry Alaska. This frigging place’s three Electoral votes haven’t gone to a Democratic Presidential candidate since LBJ in 1964.But – We have a chance to get rid Ted Stevens and Don Young, and replace them with Democrats. That will also be good for America.

How far would I go to reject the “dark side”?A hell of a long way! As far as saying that anyone who votes for a Republican this year can just STFU forever!Yes, forever! Fuck you! For 8 years you’ve destroyed this fine country! So bite my ass!As far as I’m concerned all Republican voters can just STFU and never, ever be heard from again!Fuck you all! Why don’t you just change your moniker from GOP to GOD! You are all stupid, stupid, stupid!Beyond being stupid, you’re hateful, despicable pieces of trash! You demean a man just because of his physical attributes, whether it be color, weight. general stature, etc.Fuck all of you Republicans! You act like a bunch of Kindergärtners! You have no sense of decency! That’s easy to figure out! You’re just not decent people! You deserve to live in the stone age! Drill that into your own heads!Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, that felt good even if no one reads it!

Bob, your Star Wars reference is not off-base. As Yoda says, “fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to the dark side.” The wingnuts who harp on BO’s middle name are giving in to their fear, turning angry, and losing themselves to hate. They are definitely serving the dark side.

I am sickened that a potential President is hoping and counting on a “Bradley effect” or just pure racism whereby citizens won’t vote for a candidate entirely based upon the color of his skin.
