Shades of Lincoln

The Nico:

President-elect Barack Obama offered Sen. Hillary Clinton the position of Secretary of State during their meeting Thursday in Chicago, according to two senior Democratic officials. She requested time to consider the offer, the officials said.

Don’t make him beg, Senator. Just don’t. The drama begins…

Um… really? Do you think he would?I can’t imagine that he would, or why. He’s got others to take the job.Speaking of which… what about Wesley Clark? Any chance he gets a nod? I felt bad for him in the vp selection stage.QT

Yes he would. And it makes sense for numerous reasons — mainly, she’s more than qualified, plus it keeps her from undermining the administration in the senate. I just worry about all of the drama, which has already begun.

The drama will be the senate confirmation hearings (this is one of those posts that gets senate confirmation, right?) and Bill. Of her own accord, I don’t think she’ll be too much drama, and I’m already a little bit bored with this story. Her hawkishness doesn’t bother you, huh?QT

Not gonna happen, Bill’s going to kibosh the thing. Too many skeletors.

  • cactusgal

QT, I think Wesley Clark would be a fantastic choice. Would have liked him for VP too.

  • PackyJ

I have a sneaking hunch he WANTS her to pass on the offer.

I think it’s not going to be a long, drawn out process. And if she says no, then once again Obama took the high road and Hillary is the one that looks disgruntled. If she says yes, then ‘WOOHOO!’ party unity. It’s a win, win for Obama either way, don’t you think?

As far as the drama is concerned, it’ll pass with the next Sarah Palin ‘exclusive’ interview.

I dunno if I wanted Clark as Secty of State. Just would like to see him somewhere.I don’t know if I think that Obama would create this much drama in order for her to say no. It undermines his power and accentuates hers – I can’t see how that helps him with anything. If he asked her (and it looks like he might have, but we still have no confirmations, just “aides” anonymously saying it), I’d guess it was because he thinks she’s right for the job. And then that goes all the way back to the start of the rumors which are kinda hurtful – that he was unhappy with Kerry and Richardson as choices. Ouch and ouch!I think in the end, I’m still gonna get spanked for doubting Bob. I think she’s gonna get it. And if she does, I think she’s going to do a kick-@ss job.QT

BTW, cactusgrl – I saw your answer to Bob’s prayer. Funny stuff… :) QT

    >>Her hawkishness doesn’t bother you, huh?Well, the president will still be the president. The Secretary of State doesn’t act autonomously. Even Colin Powell was strong-armed by his bosses to lie to the U.N. against his better judgment (still very wrong of him, of course).

  • ceu

Clark for Defense or VA. But his name wasn’t on that chart that was up a few days back.

  • lame duck hunting

Taking the SOS position (flexible?) would make Obama Hillary’s boss………………he would have the ability to fire her. I don’t know if that would be a very appealing aspect of the job for her.

  • http://obamaproject.windonwater.net QueenTiye

ceu: I don’t recall Hillary’s name on that list either… so….Bob: Good point. :) QT

  • prcleburne

Hillary for Secretary of State ? Meeting with McCain ? Obama is already showing signs of greatness ( I’m still experiencing post- election euphoria ).

  • prcleburne

In my euphoria ( and a touch of George Dickel induced giddiness ), I no longer see Barack Obama as a black JFK, but rather see JFK as a white Barack Obama.

  • http://obamaproject.windonwater.net QueenTiye

Hi prcleburne. :) Welcome to the madness. The post-election euphoria doesn’t need much help. ;) QT
