The Redskins Election Myth

If the Redskins win Monday night, you might hear Drudge and the others suggesting that it’s a sign that John McCain might win.

The legend goes that if the Redskins win at home on the weekend before Election Day (or the next closest pre-election home game), the incumbant party wins the presidential election. Fact: this has been accurate since 1936.

Until 2004, that is. The Packers beat the Skins at home 28-14, and so the legend held that Senator Kerry would win.

Uh-huh. And we know how that turned out.

Well considering the amount of people the republicans had to disenfranchise in order to win in 2004, I’d say it still holds… in which case I hope they lose the shit out of that game.

I’m a Steelers fan, so they really better not fuck this one up. Great, now I have two nights of nail-biting competition coming up. Thank God, Samuel Addams invented beer.
