Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner

Exceptional choice.

But I’m sure we’ll find something weird to gripe about.

UPDATE: The Dow is up almost 500 points on this news.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Stocks rallied late on Friday after multiple news reports that New York Federal Reserve President Timothy Geithner will be nominated as President-elect Barack Obama’s Treasury secretary.

    >>Probably hear complaints that his name is “Tim.”Well, you know…. “Tim” is monosyllabic, just like the name “Bill.” As in “Bill Clinton!” This isn’t change we can believe in! Clinton! Drama!

OMG his name is an anagram for Teething Rim!!!!

I wouldn’t lump the Clinton criticism in with everything else. Sure there is the BBQ narrative that certain picks aren’t “change.” this is BS– the basic meaning of change is from the last 8 horrific years under the Bush admin–and last I checked the Clinton years were pretty damn great for America’s peace and prosperity. What I have great concerns over is the media component of the Clinton pick–it will serve as huge distraction. Honestly, if he was going to do this, he should have just picked her as VP, which I was also against. I think the Clinton concern trolling has lulled us all to sleep–do you not realize how much the media is obsessed with the Clintons?–and how “unnamed Clinton advisors” will be leaking and commenting on everything Obama does–I just think it’s a huge mistake from that perspective–and on the merits, I just do not really see her as an FP guru. I am really hoping I am wrong on this–even the way it’s been handled in the media so far–leaks, endless speculation, “the rival camps” narrative–should serve as a warning of what’s to come.

Bob, you strike me as book smart and life dumb. You are about to be schooled by reality as to the consequences of turning our country over to the feeble-minded, the overly-ambitious but under-qualified (such as the First Lady elect), the all talk but no action faction.Remember that the Democrats created the current economic crisis through their insistence on lending to those without the means or the will to pay the money back. Self-indulgence, not self-reliance or self-discipline, has been the Democrats’ way.You seem to be a naive, immature dork. Perhaps you will blog about it when you finally figure it out. Until then, do the adults a favor–shut your mouth and know your role!

Gosh George – seems to me that if you want to argue a point, you would be on stronger ground if you had your facts straight, especially in regards to who created the current crisis. You seem to be under the impression that things got screwed up in the last 18 months and everything was just hunky-dory until then. No, not so. People were losing their jobs & homes long before the Dems were a majority in Congress. The National Debt rose from about $700 billion to over $2.4 trillion under Reagan & Bush I. It went up during the first part of Clinton’s term and then started to go down. It was at about $3.4 trillion when he left office. It now stands at almost $11 trillion! That was NOT the doing of the Dems, but of the GOP! Do you really really want to bring up self-indulgence and blame the consequences of it on what was the MINORITY party during that time?? ‘Cause all it will do is create a discussion on who is the naive one.And – just ’cause I’m curious, just what are the qualifications to be First Lady and how is Michelle Obama unqualified?? [your quote: but under-qualified (such as the First Lady elect]

George-the “shut your mouth and know your role” comment is shockingly arrogant. What role would that be? Complacent enabler of neo-con fantasies? Or lap-dog for corrupt corporations that have sold our nation to the Chinese and the Saudis? If you want to have a civilized dialogue, explaining that the owner of the GDA site you are on should shut the hell up is probably not a brilliant way to begin. Also we won this time. And elections have consequeces, like good government. Deal with it.
