Afternoon Awesome

Rachel Maddow from last night’s show talks about how the Republicans are punishing the American autoworker. Of course this was when there was a deal involving a pay cut, but today we learned that the Republicans balked because the pay cut the UAW agreed to last night wouldn’t happen soon enough to satisfy the Senate Republicans. In other words, the Republicans wanted to punish workers — and punish them right damn now. Just remarkably awful.

Bob,I am trying hard to understand what the Republican Party stands for these days?Unions-Fuck them, workers can’t tell corporations what they will or will not do. Plus those elitist union workers get health care and pensions. That has to be bad for business.Law suites- Fuck that, you can’t sue your way into getting rich it must be stolen or given to you from your daddy.Universal Health care- Fuck that socialist shit. We aren’t french we are Americans. This would be bad for the Pharm Co. and Health Insurance Co.Roads and Bridges- Fuck them, we fly were we go on private jets. The poor pig farmers don’t need roads and bridges because they own pick up trucks and can ford the rivers. Plus this would be done by the government not private companies. How the hell is the party of Big Oil now the party of the Toyota Prius? It has been made completely clear that the GOP is the Party of Corporations whether they are American or not depends on their congressional district.

That graphic: The elephant humping the car. Brilliant!

Joe, good points all. I too cannot see how the damn GOP can even be taken seriously any more. I saw a bumper sticker just today that said “Don’t Blame Me. I Voted for McCain.” WTF is that supposed to mean? Still attacking a president that hasn’t been seated yet and still proud and supportive of the mess they continue to create.I can only shake my head. There is no arguing with this ideology, which Rachel pointed out.

  • ceu

Yes, Joe – the GOP is the party of management & the Democratic party is the party of labor. That’s how it’s traditionally been and now you know why. The Dems are concerned with conditions & rights and the GOP is concerned with profits.Makes you wonder why anyone who works for a living would vote Republican, eh?

  • ceu

Wish you’d asked the driver what exactly would be different/better if McCain had been elected, JM.OTOH, maybe it was a really old sticker & the vote for McCain was in 2000…

  • LameDuckHunting

Exactly whose pain do the republicans feel? Certainly not that of the working man. Pedophiles and grifters, maybe?

  • kansasdem

Bob,Someone needs to bring up the last big GM (actually all 3 really) bailout!Yeah, the one that enticed them to build huge-ass SUV’s!What did that cost in tax incentives? (Part of the reason our national debt nearly doubled)How much did that increase the “demand” for foreign oil? Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!Come on! Someone with a voice needs to ask these questions! Where was the outrage? Oh, yeah, we were being patriotic by spending more!Even if it meant spending more on imported oil!But now it’s all the fault of the UAW?????????????????Gimme a fuckin’ break!

  • Midad

It really is unbelievable. They want to punish the union workers, and they want it all in writing. Is it writing that that there should be a cap on salaries for all management and CEcardiac enzymes? That goes for the banking industry too. What the hell did they give up?

  • Midad

    oops..sorry about that. durn word expander. I meant C.E.O.s :{

Like Colin Powell said today…The Republican party needs to stop listening to poeple like Rush, Hannity and O’ Reilly and start accepting the fact that the demographics of Anerica are changing. Here is what Colin Powell said today. “I think the party has to stop shouting at the world and at the country,”Powell said. “I think that the party has to take a hard look at itself, and I’ve talked to a number of leaders in recent weeks and they understand that.” Powell, who says he still considers himself a Republican, said his party should also stop listening to conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.”Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?” Powell asked. “Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?”

  • GItheJOE

Mike,Colin Powell is my hero. I heard Mike Gallager call Colin Powell and elitist liberal today on talk radio.Do you know why Powell is an elitist liberal because he insulted their beloved Sarah Palin.Dear Baby Jesus, Please let these assholes run with Palin in 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024.30 years of Democratic Rule might fix the mess of Nixon, Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2 and Rush Limbaugh.Yes, I count Rush as a political leader because his mouth has kept the GOP in power for to long.

ceu: I’m in management, so I resemble that remark… ;) I don’t think the republican party knows what they stand for anymore. Michael Steele and Colin Powell are making a hard push for the GOP they were trying to create quietly from the inside. I expect to see JC Watts step up to the plate there too. And I think that’s going to work out to be too many black people with opinions for the GOP. I think for 2010, it’s going to be a Christianist party – but I don’t think that that’s going to hold together well – and a couple of really centrist moves by Obama will stab that effort right in the heart, forcing the republican party to become something else altogether in 2012, or at least by 2014. In the meantime, they are rather pathetic.QT

It’s time for the everyman to take back what is his. “They” cannot be allowed to take away everything that has made this country strong for the last 100 years. We were built on the industries that drove our economy and we must take them back now.

  • prcleburne

I can wrap my brain around Southern politicians wanting to suppress union workers. After all, southern politicians fought a war for the purpose of suppressing an entire race. What I can’t understand is why we southerners vote for these people. While I am no fan of the Ford family of Memphis, I am proud to say that I voted for Harold Ford when he ran against Bob Corker. I saw Corker, a multimillionaire developer, as someone whose purpose in life is to make money without providing any useful service to society.

  • prcleburne

And he continues to provide no useful service to society.

even better was her segment on the senate armes forces report on torture.somehow weve gotten to a point in this country where news about the united states torturing people gets buried.i know its not as sexy as “blago obama chicago corruption blah blah…” but still.wtf.has eight years of bush really left us that jaded?
