Blog Awards

Always a bridesmaid, never a whatever.

Two of the blogs I contribute to were nominated for blog awards this year: Crooks & Liars and, of course, The Huffington Post. Huzzahs all around!

I didn’t know you posted in Amatoland. Also judging by their “best comic strip” category (not to mention some of the nominees in “liberal blog”), these are some kind of Bizarro awards for failure.

“Best Online Community” is like a who’s who of people you don’t want to bump into at a party.

Oh man!You should get an award, Bob! I don’ t have any authority whatsoever, but the GDAB is now the proud winner of theGet Someone To Care Award! If it wasn’t for your blog & all of the amazing Cescans on every PTT, I would have just gone on being half-informed and caring less. No money or fame involved, but…THANK YOU!!! ~The Minx~

Next year, Bob, you might consider taking a cue from Jonathan Turley:After following the last two presidential campaigns, I am ready for the final push on the campaign. We must now enlist Nigerian spammers and Chinese hackers to bring home the ABA bacon. In the meantime, I will start to spread vicious rumors about the other blogs to suppress their vote and redirect their votes to nonexistent voting locations. I am also offering voters free teeshirts reading “Turley Bloggers Do It Daily” (offer invalid in all fifty states and any foreign nation or territory).(snip) For vegetarians, I promise a meat-free lexicon by dropping terms like “get to the meat of the issue” or “ham it up” or “playing chicken.”(snip)For Barry Manilow fans . . . well you need to go to The Tax Professor blog . . . there a just come things I cannot do.http://jonathanturley.org/2008/12/27/the-turley-blog-leads-in-vote-on-best-law-professor-and-legal-theory-blogs/However…you've done well this year & have reason to be proud of yourself. I spent many Tuesday nights enjoying your liveblogging of the primary and election results. For that, and allowing our community here to flourish (even when things get downright silly) I thank you. You’ve made this a comfortable place to come to express an opinion or observation or stray thought. You may not have won the award, but you did win the gratitude & respect of some pretty loyal fans.Chris

Bob, I’ve been thinking of how to respond to this thread. Should I go for funny? Not that good at it. Sarcastic? I’m good at that but its so unpleasant. So, I’m opting for sincere. Before I even figured out who you were (other than some random HuffPost blogger), I’d read and appreciated your empassioned endorsement of Obama. Later, and with me still not putting two and two together, I read your call to the rest of the blogosphere to get on board. I cheered that post and watched excitedly as the blogosphere finally came around. Yours has been a humorous, yet principled voice, and one of the rare sensible ones – I believe if you were in arms distance, it’d be fun to chat over coffee with you, and I wouldn’t wind up thinking I was talking to someone who was maybe a little overextended…it took one of those livebloggings – I think one of them done with Jason Linkins (sp?) before I finally had a name and a regular way to find out what was on your mind. You are one of the very few bloggers who endorsed Obama for the heart of who he is rather than only for ideology or political expedience. AND, you’re gorgeous. Your wife is beyond lucky. ;-) I don’t know the name of an award that quite covers all of that…except maybe the one that already names this blog. So, congratulations for winning the 2009 G*dd*m Awesome Blog Award!QT
