Cable News Hackery

I didn’t see much of the morning cable news shows, but apparently there was a higher than usual concentration of hackery and intellectual violence. From Leigh in the comments:

…over at CNN this morning, they replayed a “report” that Ed Henry taped in Hawaii sometime yesterday where he speculated that “no matter what the current situation is in the Middle East, it’s not keeping PE Obama off the golf course.”

And even earlier this morning on CNN’s Headline News some dimwit Republican radio talker/strategist said that Obama ‘has only issued one statement regarding the Middle East…and that made said talker/strategist “really hope that Obama’s being briefed or is in touch with SOME one about the situation over there.”

(Also, on another morning show some woman said that Obama’s usual refrain of there only being one president at a time isn’t enough anymore b/c we could use as many presidents as possible. WTF?)

I guess it’s safe to assume that the media is going to begin “suggesting” that Obama is a lazy, black man who shouldn’t be on vacation in Hawaii while the Middle East is exploding. Why isn’t Obama fixing this yet? Do these people not realize that Bush is still president?

The Republicans and cable news people need to be reminded of this, which occurred during the darkest days of the Iraq occupation.

As for the “lazy and shiftless” racial stereotype, this is clearly going to be an avenue of attack for cable news and the Republicans despite President Bush’s record number of vacation days. When the president-elect breaks that record, I’ll be right there losing my shpadoinkle. But it’s not gonna happen. Not by half.

But what do they want the president-elect to do? Stage a coup and forcably occupy the situation room?

And Bush himself is on vacation right now. Why?!? He will be on permanent vacation in just over 3 weeks. (Thank the Lord!)

Interesting that they haven’t noticed that Mr. Obama is, not at this moment, the president, that Mr. Bush is, at this moment, the president and that MR.BUSH IS ON VACATION!!!! Yet again. With only 3 weeks left in office, BUSH IS ONCE AGAIN ON VACATION!!!

Not only is Bush on vacation now, he’s pretty much been on vacation since November 4. He’s checked out, except for the occasional “Hishtry will vindacate me. Heh. Heh.” interview to remind us he’s still alive. As Hacky as this treatment is, might it really be an admission by them that they know the Bush Admin can’t handle it and they are almost begging for Obama to just step in on this and a dozen domestic issues? They are so used to the utter lawlessness of the Cheney/bush Administration, perhaps they honestly believe no one would object if he just started running things.

I don’t know if Bush would go for it, but congress could vote to move up the inauguration date. It’s been changed before, but usually by the re-elected President.Bush does not seem to want to deal with anything, and in this time of national crisis, although I may be wet-dreaming, it could be that he is hoping to be relieved of duty, while not handing over power to Cheney.Bush made a promise to have a negotiated peace in place for Gaza by 2009. Right now, it seems like he has no intention of lifting a finger. As far-stretched as this sounds, if I’m Obama, I at least ask Bush how he would respond to a call for an early inauguration. Stranger things have happened, and unless you ask, you’ll never get.

With regard to the idea of an early inauguration, there is a small problem with that. The 20th Amendment. Congress can’t change the date, unless you are proposing that they pass an amendment that then gets ratified by 3/4 of the states before January 20th.

There is only one president at a time…except for now, when there is exactly none.
