Disagreeable

The president-elect defends the Warren fiasco:

I don’t think Rick Warren is being at all “agreeable” when he compares same-sex marriage to incest and pederasty. In fact, I can think of very few political/social metaphors that are more disagreeable.

wow–I completely understand why people are so upset–I am to a degree as well, but this is a master stroke, politically speaking.1.) Reinforces moderate label (this “most liberal” thing is officially dead2.) Blunts the effect of Hannity/Limbaugh/Fixed News’ silly/false innuendos3.) Blunts the association meme especially with respect to Rev Wright (which you know will continually be brought up)4.) Shines a light on Warren’s hatred, and the hatred of the right–Think about it, this pick does more to bring this issue to the forefront than any other “symbolic” move he could have made. And again, his views have not changed one bit–this is purely a symbolic political move.Obama realizes that being a “reverse Bush” will hinder his ability to get things done on the huge issues. Warren is on the wrong side of this issue–for that matter, so is Obama–gay rights and gay marriage are coming. I view this as more of a generational issue than a religious one. My sister is 14 years old–she goes to school with many “two mommy” “two daddy” families–It’s no big deal–She votes in the next presidential election, and lives in California–watch for the tidal wave in 2012, if the courts don;t overturn Prop 8 sooner.Let’s not “cling to our guns and religion”–I know that sounds callous and harsh (and maybe not entirely equitable), but Obama’s truthful statement about “clinging” works both ways. I am an ardent supporter of gay rights, but let’s be smart about this–Let’s give the man a chance to be President, and not get mired in the political means by which Obama will GET THINGS DONE on the agenda that we support.

You know, I understand that this country is diverse, and that we’ve all got opinions, and that we are a noisy people, and whatever else Obama said, but I just have to ask — would he be inviting someone who advocated slavery to speak at his inauguration? How about the Grand Dragon of the KKK?Civil rights are for EVERYONE. No ifs, ands or buts.Just because someone has an opinion doesn’t mean the rest of us have to pay attention to it.Sorry, Obama, but this is bullshit.

Bob,Warren didn’t compare gay marriage to incest and you know that. Here, check out what one of the leaders for the Homosexual movement said.”People for the American Way President Kathryn Kolbert told CNN she is “deeply disappointed” with the choice of Warren and said the powerful platform at the inauguration should instead have been given to someone who has “consistent mainstream American values.””I wrote a post about this statement. My claim is that if the Pro-Prop 8 people had said something like this about a gay, it would have made EVERY newscast, and the speaker would have been forced to resign for uttering hate speech. The above statement IS hate speech. It’s literally the gays telling all of America that if you don’t think like they do, you are anti-american.Mainstream American values? Excuse me? When did she become judge of what constitutes mainstream American values?

Actually, the phrase about disagreeing without being disagreeable seems to be a quote from Rick Warren!

“Warren didn’t compare gay marriage to incest and you know that. “Umm, yes, he did. And Paedophilia.”Rick Warren: But the issue to me is, I’m not opposed to that as much as I’m opposed to the redefinition of a 5,000-year definition of marriage. I’m opposed to having a brother and sister be together and call that marriage. I’m opposed to an older guy marrying a child and calling that a marriage. I’m opposed to one guy having multiple wives and calling that marriage.Steven Waldman: Do you think, though, that they are equivalent to having gays getting married?Rick Warren: Oh I do. “
