Friendship

Blogging is indeed about a connection similar to a friendship.

But also, from what I’ve experienced doing this for four years (almost to the day), a blog is more akin to a community. And the blogger is sort of the community organizer.

One of the reasons why the Republicans were crushed this year is they chose to mock community organizing rather than embracing its potential.

Awww! Thanks for sharing that Bob! :) and, you will always get me to agree that mocking community organizing deserves ridicule, scorn, and failure.QT

You are so right!Bloggers make up great communities. We cross polinate blog to blog as well.GDAB has brilliant thinkers, very funny humourists and riveting commentators – love to hang here.Maybe you could (request time) set up a prime time top four other blogs thread.

I added Bob on Facebook last week because I felt that certain kinda friendship that only a blog can provide. I didn’t expect an add back but later that afternoon it was friendship confirmed./gushing

Yes, this is a fine community, indeed. Ideas can be shared freely and no one is ridiculed or derided. The Republicans of the Neocon era have no sense of community outside their insular circle of criminals, power-grabbers and idiot-sycophants. They use their constituents for their votes and disrespect them at every turn, until they need the votes again. It is no surprise they mock people who try to better the lives of othersI hope, in the small, dark hours, they really feel the loneliness they so richly deserve.

Yeah, blogging definitely resembles friendship and is a type of community, especially smaller blogs. I don’t feel a connection on the ones where hundreds of people comment, and often the comments devolve into nasty attacks. But places like here and a few of my other favs, I do feel a real connection. Bob you are a GDA community organizer!

Kudos on your organizing skills, Bob– I’ve adopted some of your techniques for my blog! I run a spirituality/religion crosspost discussion in a small online community. (Don’t ask me how I ended up doing this– I’m an agnostic).I’d prefer to be writing about the arts and sciences, but the hunger for a nonjudgmental, non-hostile spirituality forum has grabbed me and held me hostage. It’s been a fascinating ride, and I’m not entirely in control of it.
