Make The Republicans Talk

Josh again:

What I do think makes sense is for the majority to actually require the minority to filibuster — as in talk and talk and talk.

I’ve been wondering this myself for the last, well, since the Democrats took control of Congress. It seems to me as if making the Republicans stand up and own their obstruction would underscore their role in this. As it stands now, it’s understood only by those of us following — and grasping — the ridiculous process.

So make the Republicans break out the adult diapers and recipe books and talk, talk, talk.

I agree. It’s time to make them own up to something! They always get away clean because the Democrats let them. Owning their obstructionism would be an excellent place to start on their journey to existentialist enlightenment.

I know it has been said a hundred times but I am a little slow.Everyone that is upset about the bailout not passing needs to get on the intertubes and find them a free copy of, “Who killed the electric car?”I watched it last night for the first time and GM deserves nothing. Yes, that includes the thousands of union employees who watcedh GM kill the electric car and no one WHISTLEBLEW.I am not a fan of killing the unions but their hands aren’t clear either. It was a complete and totally failure of the organizational culture of every employee at GM.

I’m not sure that would go so well. I’m all for making them own this, but they’re masters at political theater. They’d stand their and blab away. I don’t think the issue is that they don’t have to stand up and talk, I believe the issue is that our majority (you know, the one in control of Congress) can’t get these fuckers to the table and can’t sell it to the American people.I’m optimistic about the incoming administration, but all we’ve gotten out of our majority in Congress is more fear when it comes to standing up to the minority. I just don’t think our leadership has what it takes. I’m firmly convinced that, even with the overwhelming majority we’ll have in the House and the slightly less-slim-than-usual majority in the Senate, what’s coming next year is more of the same. The Republicans will not only be able to block vital legislation, they’ll keep the Democrats cowed even more than they do now because Democrats will fear being seen as too complacent to the Obama administration. They’ll have no defense against charges from the Right that they are a “rubber stamp Congress” even though the charges come from a party that rubber-stamped everything George Bush wanted for eight years (except for Harriet Myers. Go figure). These guys are worthless. Pelosi and Reid have to go or we have to face the fact that this is a preview of what we’ll see for the next four years on every major issue.
