I loathe this boy band emo crap–Bob, how could you? Your taste in music seems to be right on target, but this? What’s next? Fall Out Boy? This is nothing more than the Backstreet Boys w/ guitars. As an alternative music fan, I have hated to see this kind of crap poison the alternative landscape.

You’re probably right. Is there some sort of consensus about this? Or just your opinion on Panic?

unless you are a 14 year old girl, then yes there is a consensus on this, LOL. This stuff is image driven guitar based pop–which is all well and good, but what pisses me off is that it has infiltrated the world of “alternative music”–This music is placed along with (yet having nothing to do with) RHCP, U2, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers, Interpol, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, et al.–radio has pretty much allowed this to happen. This is not an alternative, it is teen rock. KROQ in Los Angeles used to be one of the best stations in the country, now it sucks due to the fact this stuff has poisoned the format–Indie 103.1 is where it’s at now in L.A.But, yes it is my opinion–I am half joking. I actually love a lot of pop (even this kind of stuff once in a while)–though indie/alt dominates my listening. But I felt I needed to rant a bit.

I love their new album. I think they’re a bit underestimated because of their first one (although I liked that one too because sometimes I have the musical taste of a 14 year old.)

I think this video perfectly captures the flip, “whatever” feel of Gen Y.
