My Take On NBC’s Leno Move

by Lee Stranahan

I wrote a piece called Five Reasons NBC’s Leno Move Is Brilliant. Also, HuffPo’s Daily Brief email went out this morning with Bob on top, me near the bottom, and Erica Jong in the middle.

You boys be nice to Erica and bring her home in one piece, you hear?

Read about her experience in her new book “Fear of Blogging”

Wait is someone actually bragging about associating with Erica Jong?

So, you’re saying…you like the bottom?

Also, just read the article, and it’s good to see that someone somewhere is willing to cheerlead the demise of prime time drama. Next maybe we can eliminate those pesky half hour comedies.

Great read and thank you, Lee, for addressing the asinine glut that is Internet commenters.Present company excluded. (That means you, GDABers.)

    >>the asinine glut that is Internet commentersIsn’t this a little elitist? I never understand people who blog and then complain that people are commenting. Reeks of both Very and Serious.

There are some great comments and some not great ones. Is that elitist? Elitist like Obama was accused of being? Okay…My goal was to get people past their own biases. I don’t think the Leno move is a good because I love Jay and hate Dave. That’s not part of my thought process in that piece, so I’m trying to derail it from the outset in the reader’s mind.

Travis,It’s understandable when you deal with commenters who attempt to be as vilely racist as possible for shock value which I encounter in astronomical proportions. Those are my shoes. As for your elitist claims, I write off-color jokes about Britney Spears’ vagina for a living. But thanks for judging me, Lord Internet.

This just in: the general public has access to the internet, and sites that allow commenting. If this is too taxing there are (for the time being) newspapers and books. Also asking if someone’s statement is a bit elitist is not the same thing as directly accusing them of being an elitist. I mean, really.

As for your elitist claims, I write off-color jokes about Britney Spears’ vagina for a living. …

One can make a living doing that? Damn, I knew I took a wrong turn somewhere on my career path. ;)

Alan4s,Yes, Redmond does make a living by writing about Ms. Spears Gina.As for elitist. No fucking way. This guy is the most down to earth human being on the planet.Yes, I understand the difference between calling someone elitist and hinting that their comments are elitist. The comments on his blog come from the lowest lifeforms on this planet. When Obama got elected I am sure the NSA and FBI were all over Redmond’s site due to the overload of racist shit people were saying about out new President.

lee, this may be a good move for leno but it will cripple conan and fallon which would in turn cripple nbcmy thoughts…who wants to watch “late-night” style programming from 10 until 1:35.yes the profit margin is greater but ratings are just as important. no viewers equals no program. people love their 10 pm dramas.the talent of conan can not be put aside. he will lose out to letterman in ratings. esp if nbc viewers have already got there politically correct late-night fix with leno and go to bed earlier.i can not see leno getting viral video street cred as you mention. look at your current examples, all are originally aired after midnight and do not appeal to leno’s base as you state are “more working class and plays to middle of the country”. a base i don’t see flocking to the internet.the above was my attempt to leave my preference out of the topic…the below is not….leno and conan are corny and lame as is…i can not imagine their shows at earlier times.
