I think it’s relevant to the present Corrupt Chicago Government story… Oh, yeah, he’s a REPUBLICAN. I think news reporters have their tongues cut out if they disparage a REPUBLICAN!

Is Ryan the person that “The Ryan” highway is named after in Chicago? If so, are they to soon have a Bagodabitch bridge? Is that the tradition?

I think they only name highways after indicted Illinois governors, and then, only the highways they ride out of town on the way to prison.

As many of you know (since I spilled my guts on the “How will you fare in the economic crisis?” thread a coupld weeks back) I work 3 jobs – all part time. Today, one of my employers, a community foundation where I am the accountant, asked me to increase my hours there to 30 per week. That means I will now get INSURANCE – health, life, disability! I can go to a doctor! AND it’s enough that I can, if I choose, quit my job at the furniture store (that’s on its last legs, anyway) and STILL have more $$ coming in than I do now. I don’t think I will quit ’cause the extra income will be nice, but just knowing that I can walk out on the stupidest woman in the world and not stiff my family in the process is amazing!!It’s been a long, tough haul, but I’m seeing a light! And I’m excited!I also know that a lot of you are hitting hard times & truly, having been there (all of it – foreclosure, bankruptcy, losing it all) I do feel bad for you, but please understand, I’m not gloating – just being happy.

Does anyone know what the hell is wrong with NASA and Obama?Does the P.E. not believe that we are going to Mars like Bush’s dream a couple years ago?

These are the people who give grants to the libraries & food pantries & universal pre-k initiatives & hospital expansions, etc. in your communities. (and yes, every one of you has a community foundation that serves your area) They – we – also manage those scholarship funds that people set up when a local, well-loved coach or teacher dies, etc. So if you’re looking for a worthy charity, check out your local CF.

Joe, those were all NC statutes I listed (not “bar time” though- certain cities seem to share that one).We have beer on Sundays, after 12. And most of our counties have liquor-by-the-drink now too, whether or not anyplace exists to sell liquor by the drink. We do still have totally dry counties.And prolly a lot of moonshine!

We can’t buy beer on Sundays or after 9 here in CT, but we can buy it in grocery and convenient stores. When I lived in VT, we could buy it in gas stations, apparently ’cause driving on those roads in the winter wasn’t enough of a challenge.Used to be 8, but the legislature went wild a couple years ago & moved it to 9. And allowed the bars to be open on Election Day. Hard liquor in package stores only.

About liquor laws – I miss living in California. In Cali you can buy anything at the grocery stores, and it’s awesome. I would go out drinking at the bars, then on my way home stop off to pick up my veggies & hummus and a vodka if need be. One stop shopping at its finest.

Speaking of liquor laws I used to live in Dallas and they had blue parts of town. You had to join the club down the street. It was usually just a restaurant with a “club”/bar in it.
