Really, Republicans? REALLY?

Posted by JumpyPants

Despite the fact that Obama didn’t endorse Rod [expletive]ojevich for his 2002 gubernatorial run, and that A-hole-Rod didn’t endorse Obama in his 2004 senate race, and further that the Governor and the Senator have no relationship of any sort – civic, political, personal – that’s not going to stop the GOP from doing their level best to prove that Obama and Blago are, in fact, co-conspirators. From Politico:

Republicans, though, plan to keep the pressure on. Republican National Chairman Robert “Mike” Duncan on Tuesday said Obama’s initial response to questions about the governor was inadequate. South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson, seeking the national party post, went further. He called on Obama to release any records of discussions between his transition team and Blagojevich about Obama’s successor – citing Obama’s oft-repeated pledge for greater transparency.

And as I’ve pointed out already today, the media is only too happy to play along with this non-starter tall tale. The Politico article I’m quoting is entitled “Big risks for Obama in Blago scandal”. Wow. “Big risks.” Really? Really Ben Smith? “Risks”? Isn’t it more of a “risk” to write an article about “risks” in which you don’t list one single actual “risk”?

But the bottom line is: go for it, Republicans! Because unlike your scandal-plagued party faithful, Democrats actually go after the corrupt among them. Democrats didn’t defend Dollar Bill Jefferson in the way your party has defended Ted Stevens, Tom DeLay, Scooter Libby, etc. ad infinitum. And as the nascent Norm Coleman-linked FBI investigation heats up, well, we’ll see how you feel about the adequacy of responses then.

I agree with you Jumpy, but for the sake of fairness, Obama did endorse Blagojevich in his re-election campaign, and I believe Blagojevich endorsed Obama, though I can’t be sure about that. Nevertheless, this is a non-story until we get hard evidence. And I think we would have gotten it by now.

Excellent points all, Jumpy. It is nevertheless disturbing that Chicago, and the state of Illinois generally, still suffer the stigma of gangster rule. I’m glad Obama succeeded in changing jobs and relocating. He’s certainly far, far better than all this lunacy.

Just saw that Obama has called for Bozvich to resign. If he doesn’t, the state legislature should begin impeachment and set up a special election for the senate seat. That would help to end the “taint” talk.

Anyone who does not realize that Obama is a fully formed creature of the Chicago machine is on crack or worse.Liberals have continued to ignore his background at their own peril. Were you idiots really that desparate?

Do I remember correctly that President Bush was never tainted (by his republican supporters)in his pardon of Scooter Libby?

Vikingkaj, I’m going to assume you’re not from anywhere near Chicago just as all the other Repubs who think the corrupt Chicago machine is as vicious as it used to be, when it has no reason to be so it isn’t. But if it was, a little subtle point you know-it-all’s seem to not know. At no time in the Machine’s history, even back in papa Daley’s early days did the Machine have anything to do with Hyde Park liberals. None. Nothing. The machine would no more have backed Obama — even if he wasn’t black — than it would have backed Glinda, the Good Witch. The machine is Blago; Hyde Park liberal is Obama. They didn’t like each other back then, if you can claim you saw Blago at ANY Obama rally, speech or event during his presidential run you’ve got a stop the presses story on your hands because they don’t like each other now. To say that Obama is a fully formed creature of the Chicago machine is so ignorant I’d expect to read it on AOL’s political machine with all the other off the wall Obama ‘facts’ about forged birth certs, pallin’ around with terrorists, Acorn, Rezko, grandma’s recollection of his being born in Kenya and all the other BS you’ve done your best to smear this guy with.We were desperate as a matter of fact, but only to get out the vote to keep a Republican from finishing off what GW started. I know I can say it’s the first time in my life and I am not a young man that I cast my vote with genuine pride and after many years of being revolted by USA foreign and domestic policy shaped by Republicans and Democrats in name only, I felt almost a stirring of patriotism election night.I sincerely hope you enjoy the coming 8 years as much as I did the last 8.
