We need to unload Harry Reid and find leadership who will force the Republicans stand up and filibuster for real. There’s just no excusing a memorandum like this one, and anyone who regards the Senate Republicans as worthy of deference needs to be summarily jettisoned at the next rest stop.

I mean, suddenly the they’re worried about passing a law they haven’t read yet?

2. This rush to judgment is the same thing that happened with the TARP. Members did not have an opportunity to read or digest the legislation and therefore could not understand the consequences of it. We should not rush to pass this because Detroit says the sky is falling.

And yet they passed the USA PATRIOT Act in the exact same manner.

    In the words of Bill Maher, “All I am asking for is one ball please not two just one!”This was regarding Dem. Senators to stand up to Bush in 2007.Harry Reid has the worst job on the planet. However, he has had to deal with a record number of filibusters.I don’t want his job.But, if the Illinois Senate can bring Blagolevich up on impeachment charges than the US Senate should of had the courage to do their jobs and protect the American people from a mad/dumb man.

    If Reid does anything at all, it will be just for show and the cameras. Reid and Pelosi have shown they are either powerless to combat this sort of thing, or unwilling to.They have to go, but I’m guessing it won’t happen.For the past two years, George Bush has gotten whatever he wanted from the Democrats. Barack Obama will have to fight for every fucking item on his agenda.

I’ve been told it’s out of fear that it will make the dems look weak, but I can’t imagine it would make them look weaker than hearing the threat and going “oh okay we’ll just fold then.” They should make them actually do it, because then the cameras would be on the republicans talking and talking and talking and looking all obstructionisty.Gah I dunno… I do hope Rahm brings the hammer down because God knows Reid can’t. Isn’t there anyone else on the Democratic side who could’ve been leader? Someone who doesn’t sound like he’s constantly apologizing every time he opens his mouth?

    Harry Reid has the power, he just doesn’t use it because he’s a pussy. He can make them filibuster – a real, keep talking til your rectum falls out of your asshole filibuster. But when was the last time we saw that? He fucking made CHRIS DODD talk for 8 hours on the first FISA vote. Reid is powerless because he chooses to be.

    I agree with you and several commenters. Make them filibuster for real, not just bluster. But then publish the names, the state and party affiliations (Democrats, too), office phone numbers, and e-mail addresses.Bloggers can take the lead (as always), which will hopefully, eventually, be emulated by a few of the mainstream media.
