Since When?

Why didn’t anyone tell me that Les Stroud isn’t doing any more episodes of Survivorman? Now we’re left with that hyperkinetic fraud Bear Grylls? Aw damn.

Too bad……..”Survivorman” is a great show. It will be missed. I’ve seen an episode of Grylls’s show and it just doesn’t compare.

Ha. Sman is hard work. Did you see the link at the bottom?http://www.realitytvworld.com/news/injured-man-vs-wild-star-bear-grylls-finally-airlifted-safety-8140.phpApparently BG injured himself falling out of bed in a hotel.

Grylls is a no-talent-ass-clown of the highest order.Yeah, I read that about Stroud sometime back; the toll of going without food for extended periods, the rigors of the environments he puts himself in, plus (as they say) he’s not going any younger were all part of his decision (if I recall correctly).

What the gods of television ought to do is have a new show where Stroud teaches survival skills to people who then go into the wild and put them to practice.

Yeah, but didn’t y’all see where BG made a sleeping bag out of a dead sheep? And drank his own pee(I think that was the episode where he wore his underwear on his head)? And ripped flesh out of a zebra carcass? Jesus Christ, for the entertainment value alone, his show is awesome.I enjoy Stroud, as well; however, my kids call him “Survivor Wussie.” I don’t know if the editing doesn’t do him justice? But it seems like he’s always pulling stuff out of his backpack…like a harmonica, can of pop, ham sandwich…Or the time when all these 2-by-4s washed up on the beach…HOW CONVENIENT…and he make like, a condo out of them.I’m just sayin.’

Stroud’s show has been excellent. I can understand the “wussie” image if watching for juvenile gross-outs; Stroud doesn’t do that kind of gratuitous shtick. If I’ve learned anything watching it, it’s that one survives by being smart about how you go about it… not by bravado.

Grylls basically gives a demonstration of what NOT to do in a survival situation on every show, however he only rarely points out that caveat. Anyone who takes that guy seriously and ends up in a survival situation will end up like all of the others whose carcasses are found 7 months later by a couple of hikers after the snow melts. That being said, I find his show entertaining for its failures, especially when Bear, who is highly allergic to bee stings tries to get some honey from a very active beehive.

Love ya man, but can’t agree here. As one who has been doing the wilderness thing for better than 40 years, I cringe at the stupidity displayed on Survivorman. Glad to see it go. (Haven’t seen the other show mentioned.)
