Soles For Souls

Here’s a decent charity that works exclusively to collect and distribute shoes to people in need.

Soles for Souls.

In the U.S., needy recipients include domestic abuse shelters, Navajo/Hopi reservations, inner city hospitals and, of course, homeless shelters. And in third world villages…

Many women walk as many as five miles one way to get to the water source. On the return trip they carry as much as 50 pounds of water back to their village.

These people need shoes more than George W. Bush. Here’s the drop box location finder. And the donation page.

This is the best thing. Who knew I’d have more sympathy for the guy who threw the shoes than the Send A Shoe To Bush? C’est la vie I guess. What a massive waste (seriously).

For the lurkers and the next-day readers…Finding shoes in a thrift store is hard work (harder than presidentin’). Shoes are not something people give away. They wear them the fuck OUT. A new (hell, newish) pair of shoes is probably a much needed commodity to those of us who can’t afford to buy new. Along with coats or blankets. Food for thought.

Although I think GWB receiving all our most worn-out (and yes, blood-stained) shoes and boots would be a fitting protest…though it may fall on deaf ears…we should do both these things.

Sending shoes to Bush is a waste of effort. He won’t get the message.

As noted on Pharyngula, after you donate some shoes, send a letter to Bush.”A pair of shoes were donated to the homeless as a goodbye kiss from the American people, dog.”
