Why Hasn’t Obama Fixed Everything Yet?

Are you hearing it? That familiar Democratic griping and hand-wringing we heard ad nauseum in early September. “Obama needs to [insert frantic unsolicited advice here] or else we’re all doomed!” The latest:

“He’s got to remedy that situation. He’s going to have to be more assertive than he’s been,” demanded [Congressman Barney] Frank.

And…

“The Obama team has to step up,” Sen. Christopher Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and one of the lead negotiators, said Nov. 21 in Hartford, Conn.

“It would be very helpful if the president-elect would become more involved in resolving the issue over the source of the funds,” [Senator Carl Levin] said.

I hate seeing dem’s eat their own.I suppose I should be used to it by now, but as the linked picture says…

They do realise of course that he is not President yet? Right. I mean these are all supposed to be bright and intelligent people. What more can he do, its not his house to run yet.

This is so typical. Give all the hardest jobs to do to the people that have the most on their plate, and then whine when it doesn’t get done two days ago.I know it’s unkind to dump on a president that’s leaving, but Joe Klein didn’t have any problem doing so, and others should follow his lead in our anemic press corps. It’s cute to use the phrase “George has abdicated” and all, but why doesn’t someone get on his f-ing case for once?

Is there any questioning of Obama that would be tolerated?

  • Mark

Are you surprised one bit? Obama has been 2nd guessed since the beginning of the Democratic primaries. I’m damn near convinced the Democrats like being defeatists…

Maybe they’d feel more comfortable if he took charge, started making all the presidential decisions, thereby effecting a de facto coup d’etat, after which he could be arrested & tried for treason for attempting to overthrow the duly elected government of the United States.Yeah – that’s the way to get the country back on track….not.

  • scribblechic

Yeah Travis, questioning Barack Obama President of the United States is definitely ok. Whining that Prez Elect won’t usurp Lame Duck Prez IS NOT.Last I checked only Wingnutters thought he was the Messiah. Hmmm…

There are absolutely questions that would be tolerated once the man is actually in power. Right now, he’s not a senator. He’s not the president. The president is the president or like the bumper stickers say, “W The President”. So far Obama is conducting the fastest transition in history and yet it’s apparently not fast enough. You don’t seem to realize how unbelievably bad of a precedent it sets to have a pres-elect wielding more power than the actual president. First, it’s a coup d’etat to have someone other than the sworn leader to be leading the country. Second, you never know what delicate diplomatic conversations may be happening right now, God forbid. If Bush was usurped, that would ruin his ability to participate in diplomacy in any way. Before all the cheers go up, imagine if it was President Obama in 2012 who had just lost to Pres-Elect Sarah Palin and Obama was trying privately to prevent a war. What would Barney Frank or Chris Dodd have Obama do before he’s sworn in?

It would be very helpful if they did their jobs instead of trying to throw the ball to somebody else.

  • Alan4s

    >>It would be very helpful if they did their jobs instead of trying to throw the ball to somebody else.Exactly. Those calling for Obama to do more now are simply looking for someone to share any potential blame in case they make bad decisions. Apparently they weren’t listening when they were told it’s their job to get done, and it might not always be easy.

Maybe it’s the result of the hammering hangover given us by the Booosh administration. We are all anxious for a real leader to begin work on the awful mess these criminals created and the wait until January 20th is excruciating.

I wrote this in regards to Stranahan’s post last night on the same issue:

I saw the headline on Huffington Post, “DEMS: OBAMA NEEDS TO BE MORE HANDS-ON.” And Barney Frank: “He’s going to have to be more assetive than he’s been” and I thought WHAT THE FUCK? Jesus Christ, Barney, shut the fuck up and give us a break here. You should be talking to the PRESIDENT, not the President-elect if you want something done. Man! All this hand-wringing 7 weeks before the inauguation is really pissing me off.

They’re making fools of themselves getting all Chicken Little on us.
