An Abundance of Caution

President Obama retook the Oath of Office today. White House Counsel Greg Craig explained:

And out of an abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time.

The ceremony took place in the Map Room at the White House (strange choice of room).

And more fuel for the conspiracy wingnuts: he didn’t swear the Oath on a Bible. Seriously.

    so let me get this straight…Roberts mangled the Oath- and then Obama has to redo it ????to satisfy the Conspiracy wingernuts ?or is there some kind of law about this ? ( Roberts is making me miss Harriet Miers…)

    From what I’ve heard, the legal consensus was that he didn’t have to redo it. However, since this is the only oath explicitly spelled out in the constitution, it’d be good to have it recited correctly.I also heard that several Presidents in the past did nothing more than responding, “I do”, to the oath – none of those were challenged.

Bush.I guess standards didn’t be very high when Roberts and W went to school.KO made Chris Wallace today’s “Worst Person in the World”™ for saying that Pres. Obama wasn’t really the president because he didn’t recite the oath properly.So yes, the redo was not really necessary. But there are a multitude of wingnuts out there so a second swearing in seems a good idea.Think of it like using two rubbers when you’re going to fuck some babe you definitely don’t want to get pregnant. It’s just safer.

    I’m sure the folks at Fox “News” had a nice wank-off over raising the issue just enough so that Obama redid it just to be safe.Of course, next the conspiracy nutjobs will start claiming Obama secretly recited the oath with a copy of the Koran hidden under his jacket.
