Anticipating the Breach of the Levees

Super stupid:

Cheney defended the administration’s performance on an economy that is growing weaker daily and which recently collapsed in spectacular fashion. Cheney said that “nobody anywhere was smart enough to figure it out.”

Especially your boss, Mr. Vice President. Back in February, President Bush said, “I don’t think we’re headed to recession.” He’s smart! Remember when he said, “I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees,” even though Mr. Bill knew the levees would fail? You guys are awesome.

By the way, many economists saw this coming.

Yeah, mentioned this in the PTT last night (before I got side-tracked with ‘Airplane’ quotes).I was a mid-level manager in the financial services biz and along with a couple of other managers we saw what was happening in terms of mortgage-backed securities in 2006. We knew the mortgages were crap, but the Wall Street investors kept buying them. Of course, they knew they were crap as well since production/demand actually increased in late 2006 and early 2007 so they could hedge losses.Really sad though that there are people that will just eat this stuff up and believe the lie.

Kind of funny that back in 2000 there was so much hoo-ha about having a real “businessman” as Commander in Chief, someone who could run the country the way a CEO runs a business. That worked out well.

… a real “businessman” as Commander in Chief, someone who could run the country the way a CEO runs a business.

This needs translation since business people, or all the corporatist business people, always talk in code. What was meant was:

… a real “businessman” as Commander in Chief, someone who could run the country into the ground for the benefit of select insiders the way a CEO runs a business into the ground for the benefit of select insiders.

Does this make sense now?As you can tell, there are very few corporate CEOs that I have any respect for. I have respect for Steve Jobs, but he still bothers me.

This is the “know nothing” administration, the one that also did’t know that anybody would use airplanes as weapons, or that WMD wouldn’t be found in Iraq or that Hamas would win an election in Gaza, and on and on.
