Closer to Balance

This is good.

The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, who was elected the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop in 2003, will deliver the invocation for Sunday’s kickoff inaugural event on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the Presidential Inaugural Committee said.

The difference, however, is that Reverend Robinson hasn’t compared any anti-choice or anti-same-sex marriage advocates to Nazis or criminals. Nevertheless, this will go a long way towards easing the anger over Rick Warren. It won’t ameliorate totally solve the problem. But it’ll help.

You’d think I’d have a more substantive comment, but as I agree with your substance, here’s something else, from the grammar Nazi’s: “Ameliorate” means to make better, not necessarily to fix. So how can it not ameliorate, but nevertheless help?

Yeah, I was thinking “solve,” but you’re right. Ameliorate doesn’t mean “to solve.”Also, it’s “Nazis.” Not “Nazi’s.”BAM!

I may make a nuisance of myself here, given how much any kind of religion is hated in these quarters. But in any event, to compliment this news, there is quite a lot going on in the way of spiritual preparation for the Inauguration. I got this over the weekend from a listserve I belong to at MyBarackObama.com, called “Obama Prayer Team” – what seems to be an evangelical Christian prayer group in support of Obama:http://www.breakingchristiannews.com/articles/display_art.html?ID=6233QT

Fascinating news QueenT. Thanks for pointing that out.Speaking for myself, I do not hate any religion. I hate when zealots attempt to pass legislation inflicting their religious beliefs on others. Christofascists have been doing that sort of thing far too much recently. Note that most Christians are not Christofascists although they often act as enablers.I hope that stem cell research can get moving again.BTW, I am an atheist, but I observe that having faith often helps, so I am not even going to try to convince anyone that my atheism is for everyone. It was my personal decision after spending most of my life desperately trying to convince myself that God exists, to no avail. I finally gave up the pretense and admitted that I am an atheist.Being an atheist is similar to being gay in that it is easier in our society to pretend that you are a Christian (or straight). I am no longer a closet atheist.I am delighted that you find strength in your faith.
