Depressing as it is – it rather reminds me of how callous it is to claim that the horror that anyone experienced was all made up. Holocaust deniers, slavery apologists, truthers and now this nuttiness. All varying degrees of awful.QT

You have to admire their perseverance, though. Even when proven utterly and completely wrong, they just get louder and more obnoxious.

Reality is a terrible thing to waste, but we try really hard to do it and it helps us sleep better at night… well at least some of us…::SIGH::

Being reality impared seems to be a requirement for the reich wingers. My favorite RW talking point this week is:Spending money we don’t have is irresponsible. Cutting taxes at a time of record deficits is irresponsible. If we want to stimulate the economy we should cut taxes on the wealthy.(This stuff is comedy gold)So after cutting corporate taxes, capital gains taxes, inheritance taxes, and spending money like drunken sailors for eight years, now that we will have a democratic administration in the White House, they want to be responsible.Apparently they think we have no memory.I will not be happy until everyone on Capital Hill has been replaced by people who work for citizens and not for the corporations.

Humans have an infinite capacity for self-delusion. Facts, evidence, and logic never get in the way of what we prefer to believe. Psychologists have determined that there is no such thing as an unconscious hypocrisy; we create our lies with deliberation, even though we may not even see ourselves as hypocrites. Any new evidence that contradicts our internal narratives is simply absorbed and processed until it is made to fit the narrative. We seek information sources that confirm, and conform with, the particular world-view we want. But ultimately, conspiracy theory is a form of narcissism. The paranoiac raves because “they” want to destroy “our” freedom, but the freedoms the paranoiac values are inevitably his own. Wingnut bloggers like LGF care nothing for the freedoms of gay marriage or abortion, for instance. They may claim to care, but only in the abstract and never in the instance. The paranoiac’s world is aimed directly at themselves and they are the center about which it revolves.

Sometime before the election I followed someone’s link to LGF and read down the endless page for a while. I finally got tired of swallowing the bits I was throwing up in my mouth and never did that again.
