Four Days

In four days, President Obama accomplished the following:

Closed Guantanamo
Banned the use of torture by the CIA and all other personnel
Closed CIA “Black Sites”
Restricted the use of executive privilege by former Bush officials
Opened up foreign assistance to family-planning NGOs
Set up strict ethics rules
Blocked Bush plan to increase auto emissions
Fired a shot at Rush Limbaugh

Are there any remaining doubts about the president’s progressivism?

When he gives Bill Hicks his own public holiday, call me.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

That’s a very impressive list, but for some reason I get the most pleasure out of the last one.

  • Myhero

I was thinking the same thing Carl. I thinkLimpballs is going to have to up his meds forthe next 4 years. Limbaugh thinks he’s got all thispower sitting there in his radio station spouting off whatever he wants. Lets just see who wins a tit for tat contest, a blowhard radio jock or The President of the United States. Anyone care to takeany bets?

  • SillyGit

I was always disgusted by Bill Clinton choosing to simply ignore the Lush Rimbaugh. The rest of the list is an excellent beginning. This is Change I can believe in.

For an interesting comparison, can anyone tell us what happened during the first four days of Bush #43, term 1?

I believe he was on vacation.

    >>>For an interesting comparison, can anyone tell us what happened during the first four days of Bush #43, term 1?So far, the only thing I’ve found is that he ended US funding for international centers which counsel and perform abortions. You know…the really crucially important stuff.I find it absolutely delicious that the thing which was apparently so important to Bush was one of the first things Obama reversed. KAPOW!http://awesome.goodmagazine.com/goodsheet/goodsheet009First100Days.html

I really couldn’t be happier so far, unless of course Obama hadn’t let his own ethics standards slide by bringing in lobbyist Bill Lynn. Is he really so qualified that Obama HAS to break his own rule?

this is random but there’s a point to it!Year of the Ox:According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2009 is the Year of the Ox. The Ox symbolizes prosperity through fortitude and hard work. Those born under the influence of the Ox are fortunate to be stable and persevering. The typical Ox is a tolerant person with strong character. Not many people could equal the resolution and fearlessness that the Ox exhibits when deciding to accomplish a task. Ox people work hard without complaints at work or at home. They know that they will succeed through hard work and sustained efforts, and do not believe in get-rich-quick schemes.barack obama is an ox!

I would like to see Rush get the Howard Stern treatment. Obama can just FCC the shit out of Rush. I am not an expert but I am pretty sure that racism is a hate crime and should hold a punishment close to saying, shit, fuck, pussy etc. Howard Stern and Enimen were targets of the Bush Administration I will turn a blind eye to some Limbaugh bashing.

  • J M Ashby

Limbaugh should be given 1000 paper cuts and then pushed into salt water.

  • http://www.twoeightnine.com/ twoeightnine

Nope, racist speech is protected by the 1st Amendment. What the FCC’s policy on it is, I don’t know.

  • Myhero

Yeah but wasn’t he inciting people to riot during the democratic convention? Free speech is one thingbut I’m pretty sure inciting a riot is not protected free speech. He’ll screw up again, we just need someone with the authority to actually go after him for it when it happens again. I wonder how he’ll make out in prison? LOL

  • SillyGit

I wonder how he’ll make out in prison?

I think his anus is already stretched pretty wide from him having shoved his head through it so many times.

  • http://www.twoeightnine.com/ twoeightnine

I wonder how he’ll make out in prison? He strikes me as the type that doesn’t allow kissing on the lips.

  • SillyGit

Is he really so qualified that Obama HAS to break his own rule?

Yes, and he is not breaking his rule. His rule has a loophole that says the the President, at the President’s discretion, may ignore the ethics rule if an equally qualified candidate that conforms to the rule is unavailable. By Obama’s discretion, he thinks this is the case, and so he is ignoring *his* ethics rule. It’s not like Bush had any such rule. The Sam Stein article at HuffPo is disingenuous in that it only speaks to one side of the issue, and that is the neocon, make the president look bad side.Things Sam neglects to mention:

    • Experts say that there are only about 6 people with the experience, knowledge, skills and temperament to perform the job.
    • Secretary Gates applauds the selection.
    • The Joint Chiefs approve of the selection.

If BillO the Clown and The Lush Rimbaugh want to pee-dance about Obama ignoring his own rule then let them. Likewise for the neocons and their democratic enablers in Congress. The pee-dances are distracting, but also amusing in their pathos.I suspect that Bill Lynn is the one guy in the six that can do the job that isn’t so far to the right that Obama would need to use short wave to communicate with them.I also think that this is the guy that might replace Gates if and when Gates moves back to a Lobbying firm or a Defense Contractor.Do not be distracted by neocons juggling shiny objects.

  • Stubbhead

I am a big Obama supporter. However, claiming that Obama closed Guantanamo this week is a little like saying “Mission Accomplished.”

  • Lyle

Nothing mentioned about violating a soverign nation’s airspace and killing 17 people, including kids, with bombs. He’s an agent of change…of the small stuff.

  • SillyGit

@ LyleObama said that he plans to either capture or kill The Osama bin Laden and his Orchestra. The missile attacks into Pakistan are part of that effort. The missile attacks into Pakistan have been ongoing for some time now. I don’t remember anyone saying anything about it when Bush was doing it. The targets of these attacks are Al Qaida personnel. The Pakistan government is pretending to be bothered by these attacks. They don’t want to deal with Al Qaida directly and this method gives them plausible deniability.I much prefer invading Pakistani airspace to blow up bin Ladin’s band of merry cutthroats to invading and occupying a nation that never attacked us on the whim of a bunch of neocon fascists as part of PNAC, while justifying it with a huge pile of outright lies and half-truths.YMMV.Beware of neocons juggling shiny objects.

  • Lyle

SillyGit, you’re no relation to ClothEaredGit I hope.I know Obama’s not doing anything that George W hadn’t done with Pakistan (or Syria), or Nixon with Cambodia, etc. It just seems a shame to see someone with such promise so quickly doing something that is illegal, is getting kids killed in the process, and has been totally ineffective to date. It would have been nice to see him eventually support the International Criminal Court, but that is now obviously impossible.

  • SillyGit

LyleI understand your position, and I don’t really disagree with you. I think we will both agree that Obama has a huge pile of crap to clean up.Have patience and give the President some time. I do not like collateral damage either. I highly doubt that Obama will continue the current practices.Straightening out the economy and figuring out how to best deal with Afghanistan/Pakistan are the two biggest problems on his plate.

  • prcleburne

I know it’s not the biggest of issues ( unless your a wolf ), but I think it says boatloads about the difference in sensibilities between an Obama administration and a McCain/Palin administration. One would keep wolves on the endangered species list, the other countenances shooting wolves from helicopters. I know it’s beating a dead horse, but I couldn’t help but be struck by the contrast.

  • prcleburne

Note: The reference to wolves is under the ” auto emissions ” link.

  • 24hourjack

okay, seven out of eight of these things are necessary and/or hilarious.however, feel free to correct me if im wrong but isnt it sort of irresponsible to give money(our tax $$$?) to foreign nations to be used for abortions when there are plenty millions of american citizens who really need help with feeding their families,or with abortions for that matter.couldnt this $$ be better spent rebuilding new orleans?look,i think foreign aid is crucial and in most cases appropriate, but when i see people i know struggling and being thrown out of their homes its tough to stomach helping people in other countries first.
