Mourning Joe

by Lee Stranahan

I’m never really awake to watch MSNBC’s Morning Joe…and wow, I’m missing. Joe Scarborough just said it’s a bad day for Barack Obama to have closed Gitmo because someone the Bush administration released was doing some terror thing in Yemen….which would seem to prove that Gitmo and the Bush administration weren’t effective in fighting terror but then yamma yumma…mumble grumble….huh.

Then there was Pat Buchanan. And now – Mark Halperin in a sweater! And Obama’s ethics rules are under close scrutiny…but Bush, thank the gods, had no such rules so he wasn’t…

Wow. This is what I’m missing every morning.

The level of superficiality and total devotion to ‘very serious people’s opinions’ on that show render it at best a conduit for unchallenged conventional wisdom to be presented in a folsky, non-conventional setting. At its worst it feels like a wankfest and mutual support group for whiney politicos to settle their most superficial grievances and make fun of the left. Fucking assholes. And Mika Brzezinski is a total hack with almost no independent knowledge, which is pretty sad given the fact that her father has such a deep and nuanced understanding of world affairs.D

Don’t be to hard on Mourning Joe. That are going after their target audience. You know the people that wake up every and go to bed at 5pm. What are they called? Oh, yeah retired bitter Americans that hate everyone.

Yeah Lee, you’re missing some Emmy Award winning stupidity if not tuned in to Morning Joke™. I had to stop watching for my health, but every once in a while I flip it on just to get the blood flowing on a slow day.

Occasionally, you’ll get beauties like this which makes viewing doubly satisfying.

Did anyone catch the special Sunday edition of Morning Joe on the 18th? He was talking to a black journalist (his name escapes me) and was commenting on how the crowds were going to be record breaking for the Inauguration. Then Joe comments that DC has a huge African American population – to which the journalist agreed. THEN – Joe basically calls the whole of Washington, DC “the hood” and remarks that even if you exclude them the crowds will still be huge. I’m paraphrasing because as my jaw dropped watching I was certain that the blogs would pick up this little tidbit, but they didn’t! It’s no where to be found. I did not imagine it. Seriously.
