New Year Pimpin’

Lee Stranahan

No, that isn’t the name of a new Rush Limbaugh song in honor of the inauguration…

If you can’t see just how inappropriate your own insinuation is in the title “pimpin” and the reference to the president elect’s inauguration, you’ll never understand why some might pass on the opportunity to follow your body of written work. Your attempt at humor is in equally bad taste and would serve to place you among the ranks of Mr. Limbaugh. It hints toward all (or what little) you’re actually capable. Be careful of what you unknowingly reveal in the guise of comedic relief.

  • Lee Stranahan

I think you need to ease up, Brian.I could come up with a dozen examples of ‘Offensive Limbaugh Song Ideas’ – anyone could. There’s no ‘hint’ of anything deep or dark. The pimp in this case is me, as in I’m pimping my website.Making fun of Limbaugh’s offensiveness isn’t at all the same thing as Limbaugh being offensive. This is especially true now, when it’s a current news story and topic of discussion.Happy new year!

  • Lyle

Lee, did you author the book “I’m OK – You’re An Asshole”? Don’t be offended, it’s just humor.

  • thespacecowboy

Lee,Big fan of the series you did on voting for Obama. But I have one itsy, bitsy bit of constructive criticism: please, please proofread your blog, your posts here, and your responses.I have a tendency to give up reading something if I run across too many mistakes.Ok, that was it. I appreciate your spin on things here at GABG.Thanks and have a happy New Year!

  • Lee Stranahan

Lyle – wasn’t offended.TheSpace – I’m sorry. I have a VERY hard time proofing my own stuff – I read what it’s in my head, not on the screen. When people point out stuff I rush over to fix it when I can. I really do try, though.

And this is just day one….I guess pimpin’ AINT easy. Sheesh!Well in the words of the Oscar winning(WTF?)rap group Three Six Mafia:”You know it’s hard out here for a pimpWhen he tryin to get this money for the rent.”Keep Trickin’ em out, Lee. I’ll Holla!

Wow, where they handing out free Haterade somewhere?Brian – Did Santa not bring you that sense of humor you so desperately asked for?SpaceCowboy – Did Santa not give you the writing job you so desperately asked for causing you to demand perfect grammar out of sheer envy? (The root of all Grammar Nazi’s evil discovered!)Travis – Did you actually make me laugh?!Lee – Keep pimpin’!Redmond – Stay sexy.Gypsysoul – You just made Hit2ler proude!Teh Minx – High-five!Bob Cesca – Goddamn awesome.End caffeine rant.

    >>Wow, where they handing out free Haterade somewhere?Sometimes people just suck.

  • thespacecowboy

Nope. Just was trying to give a professional, courteous pointer. In the creative field myself and use the intertubes frequently to push along my wares.I’ve found that you garner a little more respect and sustain traffic to your site(s) if things are clean and error-free.That’s it. Not envious at all, and thankfully, not a writer.

I didn’t mind Space Cowboy’s comment at all Or Brian’s and so on…But I appreciated what Cowboy said – I wish I had a good solution. My wife is a lousy proofreader, too

  • Redmond

A respectable answer, The Space.I suffer from the same problem as Lee. Proofreading is pointless because I see what I want to see. (For instance, that last sentence reads “Buy milk.”)Sorry for lumping you in with other Grammar Nazis who are generally dicks, but try to hang in with us writers who don’t have editors and generate content at breakfast speeds. I mean, breakneck. No, breakfast.(On a related note, I did just plunk down for a copy of “Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation.” If it doesn’t work, I’m going the opposite direction and writing like a 15-year-old girl texting her BFF. 4 REALZ!)

If only there was some manner of internet web surfing program that had built in spellcheck…hmm.

  • Redmond

Travis,I rock the Firefox (AdBlock Plus, I heart you) and the undoubtedly handy spell check doesn’t catch grammatical errors.

  • gypsysoul

    >>writing like a 15-year-old girl texting her BFF. 4 REALZ!)OMG…str8t up lol…

  • http://www.leestranahan.com Lee Stranahan

My problems are twofold – not seeing what I wrote and my swimming eyesight. And Bob uses movable type and the part where you type is really hard to read. It’s easier to see the problems once I’ve posted. I almost always have to do a quick check and re-edit the second I post. Spell checking is easy…it’s missing words that kill me.
