Note to Chris Matthews About Sarah Palin

Tonight on Hardball, Chris Matthews was trying to tell us that Sarah Palin has “a certain I don’t know what” (paraphrased) and that she is therefore worthy of our attention.

The reason why most people watch Sarah Palin when she’s on the cable is because she says ridiculous things in very ridiculous ways also. It has little to do with her politics or whatever butchered, hamfisted things she has to say about policy or ideology.

Britney Spears, Ann Coulter, Kevin Federline and waterskiing squirrels inexplicably generate television viewers, but it’s not because they know anything. It’s because they’re spectacles. Sideshow geeks. Sarah Palin is a sideshow geek. She’s a political Federline for the junky set. This isn’t a quality to be praised or admired, Mr. Matthews. The only redeeming social value they provide are brief doses of “lookit how silly!” entertainment and, hence, Nielsen ratings for Chris Matthews.

Beyond that, trying to pawn off Sarah Palin as someone worthy of national leadership is, to quote Jon Stewart, hurting America.

Don’t get me wrong, though. I hope she runs in 2012. Just don’t try to tell me that she’s worthy of winning.

Adding… The position flexible.

“Tonight on Hardball, Chris Matthews was trying to tell us that Sarah Palin has ‘a certain I don’t know what’ (paraphrased) and that she is therefore worthy of our attention.”______________Sarah Palin’s “je ne sais quoi” her is pretty face and vag. Period. If she were a man no one would care. Contrary to popular belief, her media appeal extends beyond horny cons. People are intrigued by attractive people.

Maybe Chris Matthews hasn’t been getting any and the longer he goes without the better Palin looks.

Great post Bob–Please expand on this in a full fledged HuffPo post–IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

If this woman was an eyesore she would be gone. I am not saying she is good looking because her voice makes me play with sharp objects. Matthews is a closet freak and would love grope Palin like he did to Ellen.

I’ve got a certain you know what, and because of it, I’m the only one will challenge Obama in 2012. Of course, I’ll back off, because I want to allow the two political parties enough rope to hang themselves.

I love the angle. Persecution complex. I saw the headline this morning on AOL and new she would get all the attention she wants. Her message does get out though thanks to media infatuation. It’s the same way Bush’s garbled messages look better in print.Tweety’s easily manipulated by pretty airheads and manly men.

Bob – You have nailed the reason I watch Sarah whenever she appears. She is the ultimate political sideshow geek.Watching Sarah is like watching a long, continuous train wreck. I want to look away, but I can’t. She says things that make absolutely no sense and yet I have to listen. She says things that can’t possible get more bizarre and yet they do. The position flexible is the best one to date, but you know she will beat that one, you betcha. When she beats it, I need to hear it ASAP.I think MG describes a different set of Palin junkies. I am sure these two sets overlap.I agree with JG that this should be expanded into a HuffPo post.GI the JOE – Her voice drives me nuts also too. I still listen to her anyway. It’s painful in every way since I find her voice hideous and she not only butchers the language, she ejaculates words with nearly total randomness. I am not very position flexible when it comes to language usage. I think I am a masochist…Every time I hear Palin, I have to listen to youtube videos of women with very pleasant voices such as Rachel Maddow and Ellen Degeneris to get Palin’s voice out of my head.

testing. it is happening again. Shit.

GItheJoe nailed it. If she was an eyesore nobody would care. Especially on the GOP side as those guys are porn fanatics.I welcome the entertainment of Palin still commenting on ANYTHING. It’s GD awesome that she is still willing to speak at all.

Switched,I have a bunch of wingnut friends that blow their loads over that crown. I think she is disgusting and won’t touch her. I am kind of a romantic in the way that I like my women to not make my eardrums bleed during boning.

Does Palin HAVE political views???? I watched the 9 minute grouse video and thought GEE, SARAH LOOKS LIKE A DREAMCICLE POP! She is trying to replicate the LOOK the expensive stylist gave her….FAIL!

  • Erin

Yeah, what the hell was that? I mean, I know Tweety is whiplashy over everything, but he had shown the exact same footage the day before and been much more negative about it. Now, he thought she was “brilliant”, she “keeps up on her reading and knows EXACTLY what she is doing”, and that choosing to do an interview with some dude who had an OJ Simpson obsession was “politically skillful.” I guess it goes down to the whole question over whether Britney Spears is a below average human being, or a brilliant beast. I mean, I could throw myself off a bridge and get talked about on the news, but does that mean it was a good idea?

  • ceu

Does Palin HAVE political views????apparently not, as evidenced by the thought that she’d have had better press if she’d run as a Democrat.

  • Erin

ceu, Palin’s # 1 fan Pat Buchanan actually said the other day that he agreed that she WOULD have made a good candidate for the Democratic party, if not for her pro-life views. I shit you not…and, also too (heh), I remember when Couric asked about Palin if there was a previous VP candidate she admired, and she was all “Um….Geraldine Ferraro!”Yes, Palin. I’m sure that if Obama had chosen some relatively unknown person like Chet Edwards, hidden him from the press, and directed surrogates to sell him as someone who has economic experience because he is a father and has created a home budget (seriously, that was a talking point for Palin. I’ll never forget the look on Pawlenty’s face when he was on MTP the Sunday after Palin was announced), the press would have been GLOWING for him. Actually, the press tried to make us buy that crap before they had to admit that the jig was up.
