damn, this is like the fifth day in a row I won’t be able to hang out here on the PTT. oh, well. try not to be quote-able so I don’t miss anything good, alright?

  • Packy

Damn. Where the hell is everyone?Gotta go to dinner at my daughter’s house, maybe be back later.

  • ceu

isn’t it like 4:00 there, Packy?Bob, I have a request. Will you consider having an open thread during the day on Tuesday, please? Some of us are taking vacation days then and it would be nice to be able to share what’s going on with the inauguration contemporaneously.Thank you.

  • Leigh

Today’s BIG story which dominated the reporting on MSNBC: Port-A-Potties, and how there aren’t enough of them. MSNBC was totally fixated on this subject and even hosted a Port-A-Potty expert to inform all of us , the folks who are ignorant about all things Port-A-Potty, what the ideal number of people to Port-A-Potty ratio is.Yes, today marked the beginning of the historical inaugural celebrations for Barack Obama, and yes, people were still trying to fish a fucking airplane outta the Hudson River, but back to the FUCKING Port-A-Potty issue! I mean, holy shit! So, I switched over to CNN just in time to hear Wolf, Anderson, and David Gergen ALSO discuss the “toilet shortage.”I say, piss on a BUSH and shut up about it already!

Must be nice to have vacation days to take, Chris. ;) I’m still unsure of where I’ll be – I’m off but I don’t know if I should view in the comfort of my own home, invite people over the share the moment or go somewhere else.

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

That would be “…to share the moment…”. Too many Guinesses during dinner break.

  • CycloCynic

The review of Bob’s book that bjritz posted at Amazon is almost as good as the book itself. As a matter of fact, skip the book and just read the review! (Wait. No. I didn’t say that.)

  • ceu

Carl – non-profits are notoriously giving for time off in lieu of high wages. The foundation gives me 19 vacation days, 8 sick days, 3 personal days, 12 holidays (1 floating), and all the other time I need for funerals, jury duty, etc. That’s 42 days, without the other. sweet, altho most people there don’t use all their time.My other regular job doesn’t give me squat for paid time off. The 3rd job is done at home anyway, so vac time isn’t an issue.must read bjritz’s review…

I wanted to take advantage of the going-out-of-business sale at Circuit City, but they cut us back to part-time at work so I need to pinch pennies…

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

    ceu – Wow. Three jobs! That’s wonderful… that’s uniquely American, isn’t it?

In other news, looks like Israel declared a unilateral cease-fire just in time for the Inauguration festivities! They’re gonna party like it 1948!

Is this thing on?Here’s a topic to get things rolling. Your top five most underrated SNL sketches (great sketches that aren’t talked about often). Mine, in no particular order:1. Jackie Rogers Junior’s $100,000 Jackpot Wad2. Middle-Aged Man3. Robot Insurance4. 60 Minutes w/ Nathan Thurm (84-85 season)5. Space: The Infinite Frontier w/ Harry Caray

Bob – aren’t you going to be at the Inauguration? What are your blogging plans for the day?Everyone – I’d appreciate your support for my Change.gov submission here: The Broadband SuperhighwayQT

  • ceu

damn…i’ve watched SNL only sporadically since the demise of the Not Ready for Prime Time players. I have gotten a lot of mileage out of “Candygram” tho.

  • http://chenzhen.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/flagburning.jpg Elvis the Dingeldein

Jackie Rogers Junior’s $100,000 Jackpot Wad is BY FAR the funniest SNL skit of that era, possibly of all time. Chris Guest’s deadpan answers — “Japootie?” — while Billy Crystal as Sammy Davis Jr grows increasingly frustrated (“Chocolate Babies?”) is absolute gold. I’m dying to get my hands on video of that skit, I haven’t seen it in years.

  • Leigh

Matt, I just luuuuuvvvv your writing. Consider me a giddy, girly fan. And I’m pretty sure everyone is saving their pennies right now. Also is Circuit City seriously going to cease to exist or are they merely “restructuring?” How good ARE the discounts? Damn, I do need a new tee vee.Geez, my emotions ran the gamut today, and I can’t be the only one who had such a day. (The wine was really, really good, though).Where is everyone?

  • Leigh

Naw, the funniest SNL skit is the one with Frankenstein, Tarzan and Tonto…damn, I can’t recall much of it at the moment, but Frankenstein ends up wandering around saying, “Fire, Fire…” over and over again and they ALL just crack the hell up.Anyone else remember that one?

  • ceu

Mickey Roarke is no longer a handsome man.

  • ceu

and what’s with the “Personalized Subliminal Messages Flashed on Your PC” ad here? That’s a bit troubling…

  • http://www.bobcesca.com Bob Cesca

    >>>Bob – aren’t you going to be at the Inauguration? What are your blogging plans for the day?I’m not going to the inauguration. Too many people, unknown WiFi, etc. However, I’m going to the Huffington Post party the night before at the Newseum. More details soon…

  • http://www.bobcesca.com Bob Cesca

    Adding: Very serious!

  • http://www.broadwaycarl.blogspot.com Broadway Carl

Oooooh! Mr. The Bob Cesca hob-nobbing at the Newseum. If you see Kristol trying to sneak in, kick him in the nuts for me.

  • Leigh

Ceu, I totally agree with ya about Mickey Rourke. Oh my, now I have “The Big Easy” on my mind…He sure went downhill from there, yes?

  • Leigh

Oh shit, did I kill another thread? I’m seriously starting to get a complex now.And Mickey Rourke was actually in “9 1/2 Weeks” wasn’t he?

  • The Minx

Wasn’t Mickey Roarke in that movie with the bondage and the food? I thought he was sexy in that one. Maybe it’s a girl thing, but for me, sex isn’t really visual, it’s psychological.

  • The Minx

LOVED Dennis Quaid & Ellen Barkin in The Big Easy. The Grocery Store seduction is a perfect combination of visual/mind sex…At the risk of threadkilling myself, I am ultra-pissed at the husband right now. Going out and will probably be out with his buddy until 3 a.m. For the second night in a row. To answer the next question, No, I can’t go along. They stay out too late & I would be laid up for days. Besides, it’s a “Guy Thing”– they want to flirt with waitresses. Why are guys so oblivious???

  • Leigh

Mmmmm…yes, he was in “9 1/2 Weeks” and also “Angel Heart” with Lisa Bonet. HOT and SEXY flicks.

  • Leigh

Ah shit, I was wrong about “The Big Easy.” I’ve got it straight now. Losin’ the ol’ mind, I am. (And thinking about “9 1/2 Weeks” and the song “You Can Leave Your Hat On”).(Whew)

  • thruwithbuzz

Yes Leigh, Mickey was in 9 1/2 weeks, and Minx the movie you’re thinking about is the same. My favorite movie with Mickey Roarke is “The Pope of Greenwich Village”

  • wabewawa

The Minx,Surely you’ve got some of his hair?

  • ceu

He was on Graham Norton tonight. Very disappointing.

  • Leigh

Oh my, sometimes I think males are born oblivious. At other times, I think it’s an act. So, to answer your question, I have no idea. But 2 nights in a row? I wouldn’t like that much either.

  • The Minx

I have to laugh!! Anytime someone refers to the song “You Can Leave Your Hat On” I can’t help thinking of the movie “The Full Monty” with the ordinary guy strippers! The song itself, sung by Tom Jones, Wow, Sexy!! Laugh if you want, I still think Tom Jones is sexy.@Wawa, hair is a last resort. For now, will be angry & let him know exactly why. Just being pissy won’t do it, he won’t “get” why!!Leigh, Thanks for the support, sweetie. Thought that I was alone in this one.

  • wabewawa

Almost any Christopher Walken skits (besides the obviously not underrated More Cowbell and probably not underrated The Continental, too, my favorite) could make up a good part of my list.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6tJ_ayFZto
