‘Shameful’ Indeed

WASHINGTON — President Obama fired a warning shot at Wall Street on Thursday, branding bankers “shameful” for giving themselves $18.4 billion in bonuses as the economy was spinning out of control and the government was spending billions to bail out many of the nation’s most prominent financial firms.

The president didn’t throw any shoes but he referred to the bonuses as “the height of irresponsibility.” The spazzy white guys in lower Manhattan are seriously asking for an avalanche of shoes.

$18.4 billion should be cut from the next round of federal aid received by these self-serving hyenas. Maybe more, since they can’t be trusted to use the funds wisely.Let’s get the oversight in gear, pronto.

Bob/Elvis or other students of history,What kind of Presidential Powers does President Obama have to stomp a mudhole in the asses of Wall Street investment banks? Isn’t there some kind of Antitrust legislation that would apply? How about a nice friendly visit from the FBI/IRS? What about the global community and his massive support from them? Couldn’t he call up the Swedes and freeze the CEO’s assets? I am thinking he could give the overseas banks half of the crock’s assets and they could give the US government half. All I am saying is that I want my money back and I want President Obama to go all Flinty Chi Town on these fuckers. Who is with me?

Bully Pulpit.I love the way he’s calling them all out. No more just “we lost 500,000 jobs.” He’s naming names. With everything he’s been doing, it’s hard to believe it’s just Week 2, right?

Maybe I’m naive, but why werent guidelines written into the original legislation strictly prohibiting this sort of thing? How hard is it to require that NO BONUSES of any type were/are to be paid of the “bail out” money? Its not rocket science. Why was it even an option that they could do it?

cminri, they will claim that, “This was not bailout money. It was some other money we had laying around that we used for those bonuses. But that’s not money we could loan or invest, so we needed those bailout funds, else asteroids would vaporize wall street, or something.”Right?

As Jonathan Alter just said..lets start a drive to get that $18 billion to be paid back. GO!!!!

Gee! No comments about the overbuilt, overexcessive, over-budget Capitol Visitors Center built so that the smell of the citizens who own this country wouldn’t waffle onto the Congress floor. Talk about waste!!! Where was Franks and his ilk when they pushed for the “bailout”? How come they didn’t think far enough to prevent his? Oh, yeah, I forgot, they get campaign money from those folks.

Yeah, a vistors center is ALMOST exactly like bloated bonuses…
