I was listening to the radio today, and “Mrs. Robinson” started playing. Being a S&G fan, I enjoyed a driveway moment. But when it came to the lyric, “Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you”…I felt this unexpected intense rush of energy and emotion, and I thought, No, Mrs. Robinson Joltin’ Joe is here, he’s come back–and Opening Day is Tuesday.

  • gypsysoul

whoa…get out of my house bruno! i am listening to simon and garfunkel right now! yikes…that’s a little creepy…did jane send you?!?!

  • jane from The Hague

Yes, Gyps, I sent Bruno. And don’t you call it maize?

  • http://www.windonwater.net QueenTiye

Okay – I’m seriously psyched about the CNN “The Moment” photosynth technology… did anyone hear about this?http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2009/44.president/inauguration/themoment/I’m looking forward to the results!QT

  • gypsysoul

@Theo–I nominate this for a QOTW on FB because it almost got me started with the gusher that I will be on Tuesday:>>I was listening to the radio today, and “Mrs. Robinson Joltin’ Joe is here, he’s come back–and Opening Day is Tuesday.Posted by: BrunoMachiavelli at January 18, 2009 7:30 PMBruno, that was beautiful.

Herro flom China! Does this make me a foreigner, or just an expat? This is the land of pirates. Not the Somali kind who hijack oil tankers then sink and drown with the loot, but the movie kind. I just watched “Gran Torino” on the Youku.com website. Grainy to enable slow tube viewing, but free. Yaar, me buckos! Also watched first 3 episodes of season 4 “Weeds”. Go, Chinese potheads.

  • dontpanic23

Paddy, it thrills me that the raving right is pissed about an openly gay person giving the invocation at the concert. (I missed today’s festivities due to a bunch of guys in cups throwing a roughly egg-shaped object across a lined field–Woo hoo for AZ and Go Steelers, that’ll make a great Stupor Bowl. I won’t even know who to pull for because I love underdogs but I kinda like Pittsburgh. Anyway)…Thanks for that tidbit. It helps offset the *other* guy controversy.

  • ceu

Wow, Paddy. that sucks. It can’t be that a gay bishop is too controversial for HBO. Must be because he’s Episcopalian…

  • dontpanic23

Argh, but I missed the part about it not being on tv when I got all excited about the first sentence or two.As you were…I’m hopeless tonight.

  • dontpanic23

Maybe that can be offset by there being one of those monthly *booonnnnk booonnnnk* cable tests during the invocation of the Other Guy on Tuesday.

  • dontpanic23

I killed the thread, deader ‘n dead. Back to football.

  • Mike H.

As a native Pittsburghian, I’m obligated to say: Go Steelers!

  • http://www.leestranahan.com Lee Stranahan

gypsy, yeah I was really impressed. great people at digital domain who made the article happen

  • http://www.windonwater.net QueenTiye

Right now on CSPAN2 – Obama from 11/23/2004, talking at Barnes & Noble in NYC. Great talk.QT

  • http://www.windonwater.net QueenTiye

Thanks, Paddy – I was looking for the prayer on HBO and was really annoyed that it didn’t air. I hope someone has YouTubed it.QT

  • theo

DP – done.what’s this photosynth stuff you guys are ramblin’ about? Oh, there’s a link! Hey, that’s cool!

  • The Minx

Hey, Emi, I went to the website you suggested to catch episodes of Weeds, but it was all in Chinese!! Go Figure!I checked the earlier link on today’s thread– where are you Eugene Robinson? It takes you to The Political Carnival & if you buzz down through the comments, you’ll find that the audio either sucked or was cut off through Rev. Robinson’s invocation & part of U2. Either tech issues or a malevolent sound producer– more than likely, tech issues. So, Gyps, how is the “technology” going for you???

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

Who are those 31% who approve of GW Bush’s job performance? My local paper did a rather interesting interview with one of them.

  • Mike H.

Matt,Clearly that guy buys all the spin. sad.

  • http://www.osborneink.com Matt Osborne

Mike:And to think, I live in a place where MOST people are like him.

  • http://www.southofstrange.com Matt Osborne

On a completely different note: there’s been a lot of dark, unmarked helicopters flying over our area recently. But it’s probably got something to do with the millions of tons of toxic coal ash that slid into the Tennessee River. If you haven’t heard about it, that’s because the MSM has missed a disaster every bit as frightening as Katrina.

  • Packy

Matt, the TVA spill has every possibility of being a far, far worse environmental disaster than the Exxon Valdez… and the MSM has ignored it for weeks.

  • veralynn

matt–living in nc i am surrounded by those who think w is/was a great president. i could not beieve he carried the state! didn’t carry my county though, went 60-40 mccain

  • Leigh

It’s a chilly Sunday night, I’ve run the emotional gamut ALL weekend, and for some reason I am now unable to recall which tv programs I usually watch on Sunday nights. It’s downright weird.Matt, that dude interviewed in your local paper regurgitates the EXACT same arguments FOR Bush that my mother, and almost every other person here in SC does. Scary, very scary to have to live amongst them.

  • GItheScholar

    STEELERS!!!!Oh, threadkiller.

  • gypsysoul

guys i am so hopeful for our future! can you tell i am watching the inaugural celebration!

  • http://unrelatedcontent.com Travis D

Boy I sure am glad I rolled into the DC area for this cluster. Also hey beer costs $6.50 oh great. Also god do I hate Pittsburgh

  • emsique

minx, you silly of course it’s in Chinese. It’s a Chinese website for Chlist sake! Go here:http://www.youku.com/channels_index/c_dy.htmlType what you want to see in the box in the top center, hit enter. You can get movies that just hit the theaters in the US on this site, with Mandarin subtitles. My wife refuses to get DVD’s here, even though the legal ones are still only 2 or 3 bucks. Sometimes you can get movies with dubbed Mandarin.I remember seeing the classic western, “Shane” in Japan while getting drunk with some Japanese guys. We roared at the end when Alan Ladd said, “Sayonara, Joey”.

  • emsique

I also hate Pittsburgh! They stole the last super bowl they “won” just like the 2000 election. Bullshit penalties and a non touchdown. Go Cardinals! Kurt Warner is my favorite old guy Jesus freak quarterback.
