Ted Stevens Isn’t A Big Truck

Harry Reid thinks we shouldn’t dump things on him. Politico:

The Majority Leader thinks former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens shouldn’t face jail time for his seven-count federal conviction last year, telling our Manu Raju, who was also in the room, “My personal feeling, you guys, I don’t know what good that [would do]… He was a real war hero too, you know. He’s been punished enough.”

Senator Reid? Stevens hasn’t been punished, you know, at all. Sheesh. Is there any Republican that Reid doesn’t like — or any Republican he won’t enable?

    GawdDamnAwesomeCriminals!

That’s the same mentality as those who thought John McCain should be president because he was a POW. Morons on both sides of the aisle.

Is it any surprise, then, that this bunch wont consider punishing George Bush, Dick Cheney and their whole cabal for the crimes they’ve committed? He shouldn’t do jail time?!?! Then what was the point of the investigation? The trial?

  • cminri

whats the point of the Constitution?!?!?!

Punished enough? Please explain the punishment, Senator Reid. Please explain how Stevens didn’t understand the procedure when he was recorded saying that the worst that can happen to him is a fine and a little jail time. Please explain how he didn’t understand the rules changes. He’s a goddamn Senator, for fuck’s sake! If he doesn’t know the rules, then he shouldn’t fucking be there. I was always taught that ignorance of the law is not an excuse. I guess that is unless you’re a member of the US Congress, of course.

And by the way, I think that it’s a pretty big fuck up to get your home renovated for free. He didn’t know there was something wrong with that? And what a fucking disgrace that the US Senate thought it appropriate to give a convicted felon a standing ovation on his last day there. That was a goddamn embarrassment.

Yeah, like I said, Reid needs to SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP.

I just read this on Salon:Speaking to The Hill, Reid said Democrats have to be “very, very careful” not to overreach in this new Congress, explaining that this year will be different from 1993 — the last time Democrats controlled both the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch. The paper reports, “Back then, Reid said, Democrats had controlled the House for decades and behaved as though the opposition did not exist. This time around, their recent stint in the minority would give them a commitment to bipartisanship.”I heard an argument made once that maybe the same thing that happened to the Republican leadership when they took control in ’94 needs to happen now. In ’94 it was seen that the Republican leadership was playing too nice with the Democratic Majority because after existing for so long in the minority, the Republican leadership could no longer function as political animals. Off they went and that’s when we got Newt Gingrich.I think Reid and Pelosi both have Stockholm Syndrome in the worst way. They seem creepily fixated on treating the Republicans very, very nicely despite the way the Dems were treated over the past seven years. They have to go. They have to go.

I’m not sure that being unnecessarily mean to the Republicans is required, but this “treading softly so as not to upset them” crap is some bizarre form of self-flagellation.My approach would be to go ahead and push the new President’s agenda on every front, and if the R’s want to squawk, then by all means let them. Let them threaten to filibuster, and MAKE THEM CARRY THROUGH ON THE THREAT.That way, there will be even fewer of them after the next election cycle.

Hey HARRY we won!Hey HARRY grow a pair!Hey HARRY on second thought it’s time to let someone else be Senate Majority “LEADER”!

I agree Packy, there’s no reason to be unreasonable bastards or even to toe Obama’s line. I think their biggest mistake may be the idea that they can remain in the majority simply by being the majority. They need to continue to earn it from us. As long as they allow the Republicans to continue in obstructionist mode, nothing gets done and then they get tossed out. Also, we have no desire to watch as our Leadership and majority get consistently outmaneuvered by a petulant minority.

Harry Reid’s a dumb ass motherfucker.

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

Oh yeah, I was thinking about Harry Reid’s statement yesterday that he doesn’t work for Obama, he works with him. It reminded me of all the times Bush would say “I’m the Commander-in-Chief”–If you have to tell people you’re in charge, you’re not in charge.

How can we get rid of these immoral assholes?

  • SillyGit

How do we get rid of these stupid twits? Reid and Pelosi have to be gotten rid of.

  • PackyJ

I concur wholeheartedly, Nano.I wasn’t suggesting they necessarily toe Obama’s whole line like good little soldiers – but I’ve heard no better ideas coming from any of them.Since the Dems have held the majority for the last two years, they’ve done little except bluster about standing up to Bush, and when push comes to shove, capitulating to his whim. Now, they seem to be fretting about somehow annoying the Republicans instead of actually wielding the power they now have in a useful manner.

These were my thoughts last night when I first heard this.>>I don’t really like reading so I am going to pretend this is the fist post on this thread.First, Ted Stevens was a WWII hero(confirmed on WIKI) and shouldn’t go to jail? WTF?!!!! If that is the case I got some 7 11s to knock over in the next few weeks. Don’t worry I am a veteran it is authorized. Thanks Harry Reid.Second, did Obama actually lose a ball today to that blackhole Harry Reid? I am serious we need a show of balls(breasts will be fine ladies).Posted by: GItheJOE at January 7, 2009 9:31 PM

There’s an upside here:If Harry Reid is that afraid of pissing off Republicans, he undoubtedly will fold like an accordion when Rahm Emanuel kicks in his door.

If Harry Reid is that afraid of pissing off Republicans, he undoubtedly will fold like an accordion when Rahm Emanuel kicks in his door. That made me laugh! Thanks Packy!

  • EL Mystico

Packy- see if you can’t convince Rahm to tie him to a chair and prevent him from speaking to the press. Fucking Reid. “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!”5 minutes later: “Someone suggested that I really ought to take it, and so I now agree that I should, for now, continue to take it and revisit the issue in 2010!”
