The Atari Administration

Posted by JumpyPants

Another thing that Bush and his knuckle-dragging cohorts weren’t doing for the last 8 years: upgrading technology. According to WaPo, President Obama and his administration are dealing with a lot of old tech:

“It is kind of like going from an Xbox to an Atari,” Obama spokesman Bill Burton said of his new digs.

Is this surprising? No. I guarantee you Bush does not know how to navigate Facebook, let alone what “preferences” are. He has kept us in the dark ages in oh-so many ways. I further guarantee you that in 8 years, when President Obama is done, the White House will be upgraded.

“shortcut to minesweeper”, “shortcut to shortcut to minesweeper” …

Are you saying Bush was fibbing when he said he used The Google™ on The Internets™?

  • JumpyPants

Yes, Packy, I am. The amazing thing is, you’d think he’d be better at The Internets just based on the fact of The Internets Porn-o.

“I further guarantee you that in 8 years, when President Obama is done, the White House will be upgraded.”And after Obama’s done, his tech will be outdated, too. It takes two or three years to outdate technology. At some point, you have to stop the bleeding, or the White House would end up a mess of contractors constantly “updating”.Yes, yes, we know. You want the White House to be cutting edge. And, it will be, for about fifteen minutes.

No Packy, he wasn’t fibbing. It’s just that the “The Google” and “The Internets” Bush was referring to aren’t the ones you’re thinking of.

I am sure that the former president probably tried to use the intertubes and found out that everyone was writing really bad things about him. So he turned off the intertubes and never looked back. Remember this was a president that wasn’t concerned with opinion polls because he never looked at them or any media that wasn’t flattering to him.Welcome to the Age of Aquarius.

Lemons = LemonadeOn the plus side, you can’t play Centipede or Missile Command on an X-Box.So, he’s got that going for him… which is nice.

Maybe the Bush White House was worried about dumping too much stuff on The Big Truck™.

Wow politicalpartypooper,That’s a pretty asinine way to look at it.

  • JumpyPants

Politicalpartypooper, please, give me a break. Staying upgraded and current isn’t a problem for most middle-class American homes, and you doubtless know that as technology advances, it becomes simpler and smaller, not more complex and bigger. My friend wired his whole house with ethernet ports six years ago — now he doesn’t need them anymore because of wi-fi, and he’s delighted — getting online is easier. It’s not simply a matter of the White House being “cutting edge,” it’s a matter of the White House being able to do it’s job more efficiently, and a large part of said job is to communicate to and fro with billions of people.

But most appropriately, the Lincoln Bedroom had a gigantic flat screen TV.

I am reminded of the day after Clinton took office, when he told a gaggle of reporters at an event that he was shocked the previous afternoon to learn that he was unable to hold a conference call in the Oval Office. That was after the presidential campaign in which Bush Sr. had marveled at the technology of a cash register scanner…that had been in wide use for almost a decade.Yes, the White House needs an upgrade. And we have a Blackberry president to do it.

If Preznit Bush can’t navigate the Facebook, then who keeps sending me A Waterboarding using the Send Torture Flair application?
