Our President looks so natural, comfortable and confident. God damn America? No, God bless America!
bibimimi
He looks very comfortable and at ease. *sigh*But why’d he keep that imperialist rug?

You beat me to this exact same post, with the exact same picture, by about 3 minutes. I was just resizing the photo for your narrow-ass margins.Too. Awesome. For. Words.

ps. I understand the rug thing, really. To rip it out would be a HUGE eff-you to Junior considering the boner he sported for it and the $ he spent on himself.Let it be a reminder of how far we’ve come.

Bob, I think O. chose to keep Laura’s design, besides I bet there are no oval rooms in that Dallas home.

Over at Paddy & Laffy’s site, they commented on the ultra-coolness of the picture of President Obama at his desk in shirt sleeves because Bush required suit jackets in the Oval Office. Of course, Bush couldn’t do the Bump either. And Lee, just to be sure, my emphasis on ‘goddamn’ was simply a nod to the title of this here blog, not any sort of religious statement.

And Pecos! Good to see you again! You’ll have to share stories!

I think Obama’s keeping the rug until the new puppy is house-broken. Then he’ll replace it.
ceu
I’d be rather pissed off if he froze salaries & then spent taxpayer money on a new rug…This is a big “lead by example”
Alan4s
I’m pretty sure he could have changed the rub without buying a new one. He could have chosen one used by a previous president, as I understand it.
ceu
I would hope so, Alan…

Fixing: rub = rugAdding: I like the house-broken puppy theory. When do we get an edit function Bob?

No, Bob. It’s the same rug. He didn’t change anything in the Oval Office.

>> No, Bob. It’s the same rug. He didn’t change anything in the Oval Office.Oh yes he did. It’s noticably smarter in there today.

I don’t like W at all, but I don’t hold that against Laura. I think Obama kept the rug because it’s well done. I think it’s a beautiful rug. I wish I could get Laura to make home decorating suggestions for me. She appears to have very good taste.Finally. A president that doesn’t look like a smirking chimp and act like a smirking bastard.I feel so much safer. He’s already spoken to the Presidents of Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority about Gaza. He’s not wasting any time. Go! Obama! Go!

I imagine the measuring the drapes and replacing the furniture is actually not the highest thing on everyone’s list. I’m sure they’ll get the decorator in eventually. Although Bush’s office furniture was pretty nice. Easily the best part of his presidency. Well, that and no child left behind.

If President Obama is like his predecessors, he’ll change the decor in due time. That kind of change takes several months to accomplish. IIRC, there’s some immediate resetting of furniture in the public rooms of the White House — according to the first lady’s wishes — but redecoration of private offices takes time. Remember, White House staff has only about five hours to accomplish the task of moving in the new First Family — no box left unpacked.(FWIW, Dwight Eisenhower and Jimmy Carter didn’t change the Oval Office. Reagan kept Carter’s — which was Ford’s — but only for his first term.)As for who pays, Congress allots $100,000, paid by the Treasury, the the First Family, but anything over that is paid for through private donations. In all likelihood, a new Oval Office rug won’t be made on the taxpayers’ dimes.
tekwriter
Wasn’t this the rug that Bill Clinton had such a hard-on for? Was it because of the memories that kept popping up while he was visiting with the other presidents in the Oval Office a week or so ago?
Rob in Denver,Yeah but, yeah but, on Extreme Makeover Drywall edition they can do those kind of changes in one hour!

I would suck as a President because I’d spend my first year walking around the White House with my mouth agape. That place is goddamn awesome. I’m saving up for a tour!
