The Villains

America doesn’t torture. But Big John Cornyn, gangland boss of the dwindling rural mafia known as the Republican Party, doesn’t necessarily agree. And so he’s going to hold up the confirmation process of AG-designate Eric Holder until Holder agrees to not prosecute those who tortured in the last 8 years.

“Part of my concern, frankly, relates to some of his statements at the hearing in regard to torture and what his intentions are with regard to intelligence personnel who were operating in good faith based upon their understanding of what the law was,” said Cornyn.

Cornyn bumrushed Michael “Waterboarding Isn’t Torture” Mukasey through the confirmation process, so maybe Big John is worried that he himself could be charged as an accomplice before the fact.

But the point is: John Cornyn is a bad guy, a villain, the one the audience doesn’t like. And he’s not even an interesting bad guy, like the Joker or Tony Soprano. He’s more like Eric Roberts in The Dark Knight, a dumb thug in a suit. And America is turning the page on him.

The correct answer for Mr. Holder to give Senator Cornyn would be:

“As Attorney General my job will be to posecute whoever violates United States law. Ignorance of the law, or acting on incorrect assumptions about a law are not excuses. For me to do otherwise would be negligent, just as it would be negligent for a Senator to suggest that I do otherwise.”

(but I hope he would fix my spelling fuckups before he responds with that answer. Grrrr, we need an edit function!)

“Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency,” Obama said.______Very encouraging. This statement is much better than “I have hope that with faith we can overcome bad and hope can beat bad with good and happy” or whatever bullshit.I hope that he gives nearly unprecedented access to the media.I remember when monkey said (to paraphrase) “Ah ain’t gotta answer none o’ y’all’s questions. Y’all answer to the president. Ah ain’t answerin’ to y’all.” The idiot never understood the job.

MG. It must never be forgotten that GWB is a very stupid and bad man.

How is it that they are able to do this in the minority–The Repubs had less of a majority and were able to steamroll on everything>?We really need a strong majority leader to shine a light on this obstructionist behavior in a such serious times.

JG – because the GOP is the party of “fuck you, we’ll do what we want”. Yes, they got legislation passed, but it was shitty ’cause they didn’t want input from the other side.Turns out that that’s not always in the country’s best interest.

ceu–that is exactly why we need a really strong leader in the Senate to point out this BS.Everytime they do this, the Dems need to shine a big bright light on them.

So let me get this straight. The Republicans plan to hold up his confirmation because he, as the U.S. Attorney Fucking General, would be committed to UPHOLDING THE LAW.Words. Fail.

    I absolutely agree, JG
