What Unites Us

Posted by JumpyPants

As a lifelong registered Democrat, I can’t help but feel a swell of pride in the breast when gazing upon President Obama and Secretary Clinton standing side-by-side at the State Department right now, talking about foreign policy. It strikes me that what unites us as a party is the same thing that is uniting us across parties as Americans in general: our passion for progress and for openness.

The President and Secretary Clinton’s long battle for the nomination was a battle between two advocates in the cause of opening government to all people, not just wealthy white men. It’s why they can work together today — because they recognize that the aims for which they work are far bigger than their individual selves, no matter how titanic those selves may appear at the fleeting moment.

What a wonderful post, and a wonderful sentiment. I have been a Hillary Clinton supporter for years, and Barack Obama is growing on me. So far, so good–let’s see what this team can accomplish.

I was a Clinton enthusiast in the primaries, but couldn’t be happier to admit it all came out just right in the end.
