Will Our Economy See An Obama Bounce?

by Lee Stranahan

At the risk of sounding…ya know….full of hope, I watched President-Elect Obama’s brief statements to the press today and I can’t help feeling that our economy might see a little upswing fairly quickly. What will be the effect of seeing a competent, smart, not totally-full-of-shit President on the TV every day? Even when he’s got bad news, it feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.

The end of our country’s unraveling is actually in sight. The New Beginning is just up over the horizon. Remember how you felt when our country elected Barack Obama? Contrast that with the feeling 80% of the country gets in the pit of their stomach when President Bush rears his confused head and grins and squints and punts our nation down the road another day. Try to remember what this day-to-day life feels like…

I swear I said something similar to a colleague today–I really believe the economy is going to have a good, if not, strong recovery this year.

For the first time in “8″ years I will actually be able to listen to my President without becoming physically ill. It’s already like manner in the wilderness to listen to complete sentences and well thought out answers.

I hope you’re right, Lee, but I am doubtful. Republican politicians look like a bunch of slimy idiots bent on doubling down on their conservative, Bible thumping, blame FDR and god knows what else insects. Democrats look like the biggest bunch of theatrical idiots I’ve ever seen. Our government is a complete circus right now. The apoplexy I feel and the people I know feel because of the financial situation and the handing over of hundreds of billions of dollars to crooks and asking for no receipts in exchange. Why is Blago still a governor? Why is Burris such a self-aggrandizing dipshit? Our government, on all sides, is a joke right now. I don’t have a lot of confidence in the spazzes on Wall St. doing anything but vibrating madly and bumping into each other like the old metal football games.I hate to be doom and gloom but right now I just don’t see anything to be happy about.

Ya know, I actually feel pretty confident about an immediate economic confidence switcheroo right away, too! But where I work, I feel a little isolated from this whole supposed ‘slow-down’ that we’re supposed to be experiencing, and I still have my health insurance. Thank G-d for that!
