Your Tax Dollars At Work

Unless you’re eating, check out this “Keeping America Safe” video at the White House website.

While exploiting showing various photographs of 9/11 devastation, President Bush says that September 11 was, “the most significant attack in our nation’s history.”

Not to diminish the tragedy of 9/11, but it absolutely wasn’t the most significant. One of the most perhaps.

I’m not sure where Pearl Harbor ranks on his list. It only ushered the United States into a world war in which 418,500 Americans were killed. There was another attack in 1814 in which the British army invaded Washington, DC and burned the White House and Capitol building. That was pretty significant. In 1861, shortly after the dissolving of the Union, the southern Confederacy attacked a base in Charleston Harbor called Fort Sumter. 600,000 Americans were killed in the war that followed that one. Significant.

Yeah, but none of those things happened to ‘him’.Significance is due to his selfishness.Oh, and revisionist history. Have to protect that Bush legacy you know.

    >> Not on the hatred that the democrats harbored for him, but on the successes that went unnoticed by the media.Ummm, I’m not in the media, but I didn’t notice these successes either. Would you like to enumerate them for us here?

  • LameDuckHunting

cnn, please tell me what news media you have been reading or watching. I think I would enjoy it…..

cnn – You’re right, the media has not done its job. But in my opinion, their job was not being afraid to ask the tough questions of the President and his administration for fear of being shut out and prevented further access. If the media had been diligent in reporting the fact of the lack of WMD in Iraq, if the media, or those that run the corporate media, felt the need to equate what they perceived as talking head “balance” with truthfulness, if the media had not just regurgitated the White House talking points as news, then we’d be talking about a very different Bush legacy.

And yes, the media will recover because we will now have a President who is a proponent of transparency instead of secrecy. The media will sense that as a weakness and in their zealousness will try to make right what they’ve made wrong thse last 8 years.

George W. Bush didn’t suffer because of the media, the media suffered because of George W. Bush.

No attacks since 911.That’s like someone telling you “I haven’t had a DUI since my last DUI therefore I’m doing a great job of not getting a DUI.”

  • LameDuckHunting

Didn’t Bush cite the “no DUI since my last DUI” as one of his accomplishments? Now THAT’S keeping us safe………..

  • Lyle

The Gulf of Tonkin attack ended up with more than 4,000,000 dead and many more injured, which is pretty significant for a work of fiction.

  • Lyle

…the successes of his first term? What, he waited until his 2nd term before he bankrupted the country?

  • gypsysoul

    >>the media has done a great disservice to this country. Unbias reporting seems to have become reporting…i agree. but fox is one of the only stations you can get on your tv with “rabbit ear” antennas. i hear it helps to sit it on top of your old television set, if you’re interested!>>she did not say “you speak english” she said “you speak American”.you know they make stupid people in england too, right?>>some which have become so unprofessional should lose their jobs as reporterssee above fox response…>>If we don’t respect our own country and what it stands for, how can we expect others to respect us?i do respect our country when the people running our country respect us and those around the world!>>It is his “pioneering” on these issues that as they become resolved will cement his Presidency.ah, bless your heart…do you mean “pioneering” like hitler? saddam? castro?>>the further away from it we get, I am convinced the more favorable he will be judged.unfortunately this could happen. it’s happened before. but it definitely won’t be because he deserves the “favorability”!

To paraphrase Sir Winston Churchill – “England and the USA are two countries separated by a common language.”

Mr. The CnnReports said, “When you have the media relentlessly telling you how awful your own President is, and how disliked America is by foreigner, you are bound to believe it.”Wait…FOREIGNER hates America?! Dude, that’s unfair. They just want to know what love is, man! They just need to take a little time. A little time to think things over! And read between the lines. In case they need it when they’re older! They don’t hate America!! GOD I’m so sick of the Right-wing talking point bullshit about how Foreigner hates America just because THEY WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS!!! WON’T SOMEONE PLEASE JUST TELL THEM WHAT LOVE IS?!There’s been heartache and pain. I don’t know if I can face it again.

  • JimmyJames

This cnn guy makes me want to stand in the rain, with my head hung low, especially if I can’t get a ticket to a sold out show…..

  • LameDuckHunting

Elvis, it’s because they’re hot blooded. Check them and see. They’ve got a fever of 103. Or maybe it’s the double vision…….

I don’t know, LameDuck, I think it’s because they’re cold as ice. Willing to sacrifice. Someday they’ll pay the price, I know.

  • LameDuckHunting

Either way, Elvis, they keep playing those head games ’till I can’t take it anymore. Head games, that’s all I get from them………..

WTF is up with the slow posting on this site? It’s making me nuts, and it’s becoming an urgent, urgent emergency…

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

She’s missing out on her visit to Hateland, Lib. We all are. This is no doubt George Bush’s fault! Wait, it can’t be his fault. He’s not quite smart enough to operate the electrified-on-screen-typey machine.Damn you FOREIGNER! DAMN YOU!

  • emsique

America was actually attacked by sea pirates in 1492 and an entire hemisphere’s peoples were either annihilated or enslaved.

  • http://politicalpartypooper.wordpress.com/ Political Party Pooper

Actually, Elvis, I travel quite a bit abroad, and the reputation of Americans is as strong as it’s ever been. Give me your evidence that it is not?

  • cminri

Thanks gang – those Foreigner posts were GOLD! Comedy GOLD!! I havent laughed this hard since …well…last night…watching the Bush Goodbye Tour.

Okay, Mr. The Pooper, let’s start with the Pew Global Attitudes Project, widely considered to be The Gold Standard for worldwide opinion polling. I’m sort of slow and dull-witted and require pretty pictures and graphs to explain things to me, so a quick glance at this Visual Aid gives me some idea that Foreign Opinion — while possibly “as strong as it’s ever been” — is not, actually, As Strong As It’s Ever Been. Unless you define a THIRTY POINT DROP from 2000 to 2008 in places like Great Britain, Germany and Japan to be strong as ever. But take solace, Mr. The Pooper! Opinion polls are UP in Russia and Nigeria, huzzah! I didn’t realize when you said you travel abroad quite a bit that you were spending all your time in Moscow and Abuja. All of this sets aside, of course, that my only comments in this matter had to do with Foreigner the band, not foreigner the person that isn’t American.
