Doof Quote of the Day

“I finally came to the conclusion I would have to be a no vote on this because this stems from sexual promiscuity for the most part.”
—Colorado State Sen. Dave Schultheis (R) on a bill requiring an HIV test for pregnant women

I think I’m too young to remember a time when Republicans were intellectual and educated… was there ever a time like that?

  • Ahimsa

Is he stupid? Ignoring that fact that you don’t need to be promiscuous to get HIV during sex, what about all the other ways of getting HIV? Perhaps the hospital should give you an HIV test in case, you know, they totally fucked up with the donor blood they’re giving you?

  • Ann Swer

Because of course you know women are promiscuous (sluts, cheap). Men are studs, playboys, basically just popular.Did it occur to him said women could get HIV from their (ahem) popular husbands?

  • trustno1

Nominee for Smart Republican of the Day:The mayor of Los Alamitos is coming under fire for an e-mail he sent out that depicts the White House lawn planted with watermelons, under the title “No Easter egg hunt this year.”Yay, Republicans!!!

  • 24hourjack

its truly scary and fucking disgraceful that such a dangerously out of touch maniac dipshit like this holds elected office.and whats even worse is the fact that,we know he’s not the only one who thinks this way.he’s certainly not even the worst.

  • gypsy

don’t mess with that baby! just let it get a lifelong battle with hiv/aids!

  • J

How, exactly, is an HIV test a reward? Confused I am. Also, doesn’t the bill just allow doctors to treat the precious unborn? I’m…just so baffled. Obviously, his reasoning is ridiculous. But it’s also irrelevant to the issue at hand. It’s not “Test the slutty ladies and give them free health care for life.” It’s to treat the pregnancies better, right? So..why…it’s…urgh.

  • J

This guy is even MORE awesome than we thought: http://coloradoindependent.com/22746/state-senator-hiv-babies-are-punishment-for-promiscous-momsThat's right. He wants your baby to be seriously ill so that people around you feel bad about having sex. Is his logic.

  • Kat

Hmmm…..so you get pregnant because you are sexually promiscuous? Somebody better clue the Duggars in to their massive sluttiness. Because, you know, Jesus is watching.

  • A J

It would take “charts and graphs” to fully explain just how STOOPID this person is!!!!Good grief!!!!!!!!!!!!!And he’s an elected “re-thug-lican”!Why am I NOT surprised! (Sickened, but not surprised!)

  • http://annette-justmylittlepieceoftheworld.blogspot.com/ Annette

Ignorance in action… Republicans in general.

  • http://nanotyrnns.blogspot.com/ Nanotyrannus

I think that’s their logic. If you have the Fag Disease, you are dirty and unforgivable. Remember how Ryan White and his family were treated for merely contracting HIV through a blood transfusion? They were firebombed out of their home.I’m sure this assclown has no idea that testing the mother could lead to treatment that may prevent the baby from contracting HIV in the womb. He has to be the Good Christian, however, and lay down Jesus’ law, because you know, fags started this and his momma was promiscuous and we can’t reward that kind of bad behavior. So, yeah, sorry little guy. You’re fucked.

  • GItheJOE

Why God? What have the poor people of this great nation done to the GOP that they must be punished? Is sex a crime? Do the GOP want to outlaw sex all together? The logic behind this is wonderfully insane.I don’t mean poor in the economic sense.

  • J

He’s even MORE awesome than we thought: ““What I’m hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that,”http://coloradoindependent.com/22746/state-senator-hiv-babies-are-punishment-for-promiscous-moms

Sorry, double post. My Internet Explorer is crazy.

  • AdyLeigh

OMG that’s unbelievable. Even here in Upstate, SC, a pregnant woman is required to sign a waiver to allow for 2 HIV tests–one at the beginning of a pregnancy, and another one during the 6th month of pregnancy. At least, my OB-GYN requires it.So this Senator is “pro-life”, but doesn’t want a fetus (which is the ONLY thing left that Republicans really care about) to be protected by medications a pregnant woman can take to possibly prevent the transmission of the HIV virus to her unborn child? And, I can only assume, that he’s also against insuring a baby that is born with the HIV virus. That makes NO sense whatsoever, does it? I mean, if the Republicans don’t care about fetuses and the goings-on in every woman’s uterus in this country. What’s left for them to care about? They shouldn’t even get out of bed in the morning.Someone should remind this Senator that HIV can also be spread via transfusions, and IV drug users who may not be promiscuous at all. And then tell him this might mean he’s actually “pro-death.” Also, he should put down his bible and pick up a science book every now and then.

“What I’m hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that,”

I’d rather pay for treatment right now in the hopes of saving me having to pay for the treatment for the rest of their lives! Why does Sen. Schultheis want to kill babies?

  • J

@Nano: Seriously. Basically “You slept with someone you shouldn’t have [maybe!] and therefore you and your baby should die.” I’m assuming that he wants them to die. After all, if he’s against a simple blood test, he must be against treatment as well. How will they LEARN if they don’t SUFFER?!

  • sammyscooge

OMG!!!! Let me at him! LET ME AT HIM!!!

  • http://cousinavi.wordpress.com cousinavi

David: I think I’m too young to remember a time when Republicans were intellectual and educated… was there ever a time like that?See: William F. Buckley, Jr.See also: Henry KissingerI didn’t say they were right, good or much fun. Intellectual and educated…covered.

  • FrictionSoul

@cousinaviHuh? Like hell those two were intellectuals. All they were really capable of was vociferous obfuscation and extrapolation of the right wing belief system. In other words, they swallowed the kool-aid and vomited it up via words and those who didn’t understand called it good.

  • J

@David: What’s truly scary? Bobby Jindal is both intellectual (or at the least, intelligent) AND educated.

  • Stephanie Hunt

This is one of the most ignorant and irresponsible comments…would he prefer hospital sew a scarlet letter on them as well??

  • ElMystico

    >>Bobby Jindal is both intellectual (or at the least, intelligent) AND educated. And a part-time exorcist. Let’s not forget that.PS… This Schultheis guy is from Colorado Springs, where the highest concentration of batshit crazies is located here in my beautiful state. He’s also the ranking republican on the state Health & Human Services committee! Lucky the Dems are in charge out here now or he probably would have held back the bill in committee despite being the sole nay vote. Cos women not having promiscuous sex is more important than a child not being born with AIDS!
