‘I’m tellin’ y’all it’s sabotage’

Sullivan on the Gregg stunt:

Their clear and open intent is to do all they can, however they can, to sabotage the new administration (and the economy to boot). They want failure.

I hate being right on this one (here and here). I thought that the Republicans might, at least, reciprocate a degree of civility to President Obama. But they’ve gone well beyond their own partisan hackery and have, as Sullivan’s headline indicates, declared war on the new administration — arguably the least “civil” path they could take.

President Obama, irrespective of his agenda, extended an open hand of civility to the Republicans and the Republicans have dropped a live grenade into it. The grenade hasn’t exploded yet and it could very likely be a dud, but the gesture of doing so means everything.

    GOP = Grand Obstructionist Party!

  • http://annette-justmylittlepieceoftheworld.blogspot.com/ Annette

I believe they are doing him even worse than they did to Pres. Clinton. All in order to try to win back both Houses of Congress next year. That is their only agenda.. they think by obstructing, sabatoging and otherwise being horses asses (which by nature they are) they will win the hearts and minds of their base. But I am thinking they are losing instead. It seems according to the latest Gallup poll, the President’s numbers and the Recovery plans numbers are going up. They are only making him better, just as McCain did in the campaign did last year. That speech he gave in Springfield last night was awesome.

Bob,I am waiting for Obama to say enough is enough of this shit!

The Republicans have not accepted the paradigm shift in American political philosophy. And, to some degree (but without as much ire or consequence), we progressive Dems haven’t, either.I hope President Obama keeps reaching out. Ultimately, those who act as obstructionists and reject collaboration and honest debate will fail. Americans are reinvigorated with the political process because of Barack Obama. He has us on his side in a significant way (you know, because he actually asked us to get involved). Next election cycle, those who have stood in the way of creating the change we need will be let go. I have no doubt.

Greg said it was his mistake, twice. And took full responsibility. You, sir, are a hack.

  • ShroomDuke

The Republicans are playing Politics while MILLIONS of Americans suffer! ……Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott (R-Miss.) told Roll Call, “The strategy of being obstructionist can work or fail … and so far it’s working for us.”…What’s Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s strategy?…Block everything. Filibuster everything. And then, accuse Democrats as being a “do-nothing” Congress. Then, hope that the American people are stupid enough not to realize that it is the Republicans that are blocking legislation from passing…. leading republicans are doing everyting they can to SABOTAGE Americas economic recovery while millions of Americans suffer and die, …THIS IS TREASON!!!

  • El Mystico

Gregg’s choice was between being a marginal cabinet member or one of the last few moderate (ish) republicans in the Senate. He wants a cut of the Snow/Collins/Spectre action. Of course he backed out. Why sit there doing what you’re told and not being listened to when you could be on the Senate floor (and on camera)? I’m not saying it wasn’t annoying, but I wouldn’t want to marginalize myself for the last few years of my career either (assuming he really doesn’t run again in 2010). Especially considering the amount of “I still want to help the president” talk, I don’t think he’s part of the Boehner/McConnel douchespiracy.

This is NO mistake, this is NOT Failure,This is a deliberate attack on Democracy and the Constitution of the United States of America, it is a power grab! After years of screeming about family values, Morality, Patriotism, and Christianity, we can see that EVERYTHING the republican party has done has been an abject failure! From the WAR ON DRUGS, Programs like DARE, Tax cuts, Corporate Welfare, they have done little or nothing to help “THE PEOPLE” they have turned a blind eye to the suffering of the poor and “THE PEOPLE”!In fact they have worked hard to slowly destroy Education, Industry, Jobs, Unions, and Democracy itself! How many programs have they created to help Americans understand The Constitution of the United States of America? Conservatives always oppose Education, and anything that helps “The People”1 of every 9 homes in America is vacant! This could have easily been avoided but the Conservatives protected the Corporate Criminals instead of “The People”EVERY YEAR 18 to 20 THOUSAND American’s die for lack of Health Care, that’s 6 or 7 “9-11s”! WHO do conservatives support, The HMOs or “The People”? another 100,000 to 200,000 die because of the mistakes of an antiquated system! and every time someone comes up with a plan to fix it the Conservatives say “BE AFRAID, THE SKY IS FALLING, WE CAN’T DO THAT” their answer is always Death, Destruction, Corruption, Cronyism, Capitalism, Free Market, and Corporate Favoritism, and more of the same!At every opportunity they put Money & Power above Humanity & Democracy!THIS IS NO MISTAKE! …It is a POWER-GRAB!

Do the Republicans realize there will be a New National Holiday if this country falls. It will be calledDrag A Republican In The street and Beat Them Unconscious Day.They have no idea the condition they have left our country in.If they had any shame.

I don’t completely agree with origamonous because he called Bob a hack. However, I listened to Gregg’s speech yesterday.Gregg placed no blame on Obama, and said mutiple times that his withdrawal from the appointed was his own fault for not thinking through it more clearly earlier. He was very gracious and spoke very highly of the President.I’ll take the man at his word. I don’t consider him to be an obstructionist at this time and agree with El Mystico that we will see him working with Specter, Snowe, and Collins to provide a not always obstructionist Republican faction. All four of those Senators know that they will lose reelection if they obstruct too many things that their constituents want. In New England, one thing obstructed is probably one too many.

I thought I’d peruse this site to see what liberal sites are saying about government these days, and about conservatives in general. Frankly, I’m just Stunned at the vile despising hatred for Republicans in many of the comments. I respect the Office of the President, and my opponents views. Thought I didn’t vote for the guy, he’s my elected president, and he represents me as well. I will energetically and respectfully pursue those issues I am firmly and passionately committed to; without a desire to defame, hurt, discredit, malign those who disagree with me. I look forward to reading more posts here.Respectful Conservative – John

Are you kidding?Their clear and open intent is to do all they can, however they can, to sabotage the new administration (and the economy to boot). They want failure. The obama administration is doing a great job of sabataging themselves and the ecomony as well. Gee, how many jobs do you think will be created with the study on mice? Or, global warming, or polar bears? And how many jobs will be created by giving 5.2 billion to ACORN? Have any of you actually read the new stimulus bill? Try reading it before you talk about how bad the republicans are to trying to get the pork out of it. You people amaze me.

  • Lee B.

Proud American may be “proud” but also pretty fucking stupid. “And how many jobs will be created by giving 5.2 billion to ACORN?” Nice recital of the false talking points taken straight from wingnut talk radio. There is NO fucking money going to fucking ACORN! How many fucking times does it have to be clearly pointed out before you ignorant fucking wingnut assholes get it through your thick fucking skulls?(Sorry, I’m not normally so crass but just exasperated at the stupidity at this point)

Good.Fuck ‘em.Repub’s have done everything they possibly can to hi-jack the political scene for the last 15 (actually, 30) years. The pendulum has swung so for to the right in the last 8 years that any concessions made to appease repug whining only ends up watering down the effort, and it’s too late now for watered down efforts. The repugs have no interest in right and wrong, they only care about right and left, and they know they’ll be in bigger trouble if they admit that the policies they have ‘spunked’ on US (since 1980) has largely lead to the demise of the middle and lower classes, and ultimately, the American economy.Their only hope is to do whatever it takes to be sure Obama fails worse than they have (in the eyes of the average angry American).
