Benen quoting Bushie apologist Brad Blakeman:
"It's not presidential. An American leader needs to be hopeful and optimistic -- and truthful. Everything he says is parsed; everything he says is searched for deep meaning. When he goes to 'DefCon 5' on the economy and says that we're on the brink of catastrophe, it's absolutely insane."
Unbelievable. As recently as last week, Dick Cheney was at "Defcon 5," predicting a nuclear terrorist attack. Just a year ago, Mike Mukasey was on television literally crying because of an imminent terrorist attack -- an attack that could only be thwarted by eavesdropping on Americans.
And yet President Obama suggesting a deeper economic recession is "insane."
There's such a massive difference between the two, it almost seems ridiculous to enumerate it. Let's put it this way: half-a-million Americans each month are losing their jobs. 3.5 million and climbing (or "falling," if you look at the graph). In Bushie language, we're right smack in the middle of a full blown "attack." If anything, the president is restrained in his language.
