Intellectual Violence From The WSJ

Greenwald completely and thoroughly debunks the WSJ editorial board for claiming that Bush never pre-selected reporters before a press conference.

George W. Bush pre-selected, pre-coached and pre-screened everything from press conferences to town halls to military photo ops to press leaks.

I am starting to use your term “intellectual violence” whenever possible. This is such a blatant example. Good God, the hypocrisy astounds. It makes my head hurt.

To include his pussy Secretary of Defense. That asshole wouldn’t answer questions from troops that weren’t presreened when he would grace us with his presence in Iraq. This of course happened after one brave soul stood up an asked, “Where the FUCK is the ARMOR, sir!” and was kindly removed from service with a dishonorable discharge.

Trust — It’s actually not mine. I saw it used by Digby a while back, but it’s also the name of an album by a recording artist named Keith Murray.I wish I could take credit for it, but I can’t.

Wall Street Journal has gone from a conservative editorial page to a wingnut editorial page under Rupert. The level of deceit is shocking even though we expected it.It was known for good reporting. Since I don’t read it anymore (and haven’t for many years), I wonder if the reporting is now as bad as the editorial page.

Everything about Bush was staged. It’s almost as if he was more of an actor than Reagan. The really sad thing is the press played along with it. They cheerfully endured being mocked by a mental midget for eight years.

While I don’t read the WSJ, eve, from what I’ve heard and read, the reporting is still strong but the editorial page is in a dimension all its own. I believe it was Eric Alterman who pointed out numerous instances of the editorials using facts and opinions that were totally contradicted by the Journal’s reportage, often within the very same issue of the paper.

Okay Bob, credit where it’s due. Duly noted, and appreciated. If you use teh Google to search for “intellectual violence,” your site is the 4th hit, so you’re still keeping it out there.

How is this even an editorial the WSJ ran with when Ari Fleischer was on Bill O’Reilly the very next day after the Obama conference explaining how they did the same exact thing, but didn’t call on “oddballs”?Unfuckingbelievable.

Wow. I wrote about the Fleischer thing before reading Greenwald.

  • SillyGit

The WSJ has an editorial board? I thought they had a ministry of propaganda.

Why does the Wall Street Journal HATE America? And, why do Re-pube-licans (h/t to One Nation Under Fear) HATE America?Would Re-pube-licans be happier with an Ayatollah instead of a President? That appears to be what would finally make them shut-the-fu*k up!

NorCalNative,I don’t know why Republicans HATE Americans. I suppose it’s the same reason Democrats hate minorities. Just too damn many of them, so we have to find ways to kill them or keep them from being born.Seriously, all this “hate” talk is ridiculous. If you could round up one hundred thousand Americans in one room, maybe a handful would actually hate America.Republicans are what they are. Yes, they may be misguided, but that is not because they hate. No more than Democrats hate minorities. Why is it necessary to dehumanize people? Is it easier to treat them like shit if we do?

Kinda off topic:BILL MOYERS: I think you wrote on your blog that Dave Brody from the Christian Broadcasting Network, Pat Robertson’s outfit, will one Sunday show up on “Meet the Press.” But an Amy Goodman of “Democracy Now” will never show up on “Meet the Press.” What’s behind that phenomenon?JAY ROSEN: I think part of the reason is that if Amy Goodman came on “Meet the Press,” she would say all sorts of things that not only challenge the people on the program, but challenge what they have been saying over the years. Would go back, in a sense, discredit the narrative that’s been building up for a long time. And even though it’s maybe not wholly conscious, the idea that there’s a kind of building narrative that is more or less accurate, that we kind of tell you what’s going on in Washington, is a common assumption in the press. And people who would completely shatter that, don’t.

PPP – I think NorCal was being satirical, because liberals have been accused of hating America.QT

Another example of not understanding satire.

Thank you for explaining what is going on with the Wall Street Journal. They certainly are going crazy. They didn’t print a single article about Obama’s press conference. How can a respectable newspaper not print an article about a press conference given by the President of the United States?Until this week, I would have said that yes, their reporting is good, and they may be biased but at least they admit it and the editorial pages are no crazier than ever. But this has been unreal. So, again, thank you Bob Cesca for explaining it.

Siberia…i.e. ‘frozen out and banished’.The WSJ editorial board are deaf, blind and insanely well-compensated dinosaurs.
