Republican Hand Grenades

Rahm Emanuel and the White House are insatiable:

[Emanuel] promised that the president will not stop reaching out to the GOP.

“The President’s always going to reach out to people in both parties. I mean we have these upcoming summits, one on fiscal reform, and another one on health care. There’s gonna be Republican participation, and that will never change.”

Yeah, but Republican participation will involve sabotaging the administration. That’s it. That’s what they do. That’s their agenda.

Emanuel and the president are very likely aware of the Republican agenda in this regard. So in the process of reaching out, I hope they have a strategy in place to disarm the hand grenades and to dodge the scorpion stingers incoming from Boehner, Cantor, McConnell and the rest.

This is going to backfire on the GOP. It has to. And the Democrats and the White House have to get a jump on the framing of the argument.

Why does the Republican Party vote against economic recovery? What does the GOP not want Amricans to have health care?

They need to be ahead of the curve on this.

I still think all this inclusiveness is one big Bouncing Betty buried under fat white Republican asses, waiting to pop up and explode in their faces early in 2010. Republicans are simply too predictable not to be so easily manipulated.Mr. The Broadway Carl has it right. Constant obstructionism makes for great rhetorical questions when it’s time to vote more of their Red State asses off the Hill.

I’m with you, BC. I can see (though not agree with) ideological differences, but blatant obstructionism against a popular president just seems like walking with both eyes open toward a very high cliff.I also think that the administration needs to be very clear and deliberate with their language (and I think Obama has rated at least a B on this so far.) He should say, “here is what we did. here is what they did. see?”

I want to check out the site, but the crazy loud music prevents me from even clicking on a video. How do I turn off the music?

I think it’s important to recall that that quote is in context of Rahm saying that the white house lost control of the message. There’s already some recalibrating happening.More importantly, though, as I mentioned yesterday – it’s up to us, congress, and the white house to start defining for the public what “bipartisanship” means. Steny Hoyer really was on the ball with this yesterday, stating that bipartisanship doesn’t mean usurping voter will by granting 50% rights to a party only voted 30% in.QT

I think our President is handling all of this very well. The Republicans HAVE to oppose…they are the opposing party, that’s what the opposing party does in a two party system. It wasn’t long ago, (ten years) that the Democrats found themselves on the short end. It’s all about distinguishing the differences between the two parties. The Republicans do not really believe this Eco-Reco act will work, and because they don’t, they are trying their best to make sure the nation knows it wasn’t their idea. That’s what they have left (all they have left?), and in their minds, it isn’t a gamble. In their minds, this bill will cripple our economy.I do not believe the majority of them HOPE it fails, not unless they actually hope America sinks to depths we cannot recover from. This is more of a CYA tactic, politically speaking. A preemptive “See, I told you so”.

QT,I don’t think they lost control of the message. I think they lost control of the press. That’s a big difference. The longer this thing sits without being voted on and finalized, the more they give the press a chance to carve them up over it.By the way Bob, WTF is a Sarah Palin calendar ad doing here? Have you been pallin’ around with righties again?

Losing control of the press IS losing control of the message, PPP… what else ever could be? Or am I misunderstanding you?QT

How much of a BURN is it to Republicans that Obama has taken up the mantle of Lincoln, and making them look like an affront to his legacy?
