The Census

All morning, I’ve been listening to Joe Scarborough accusing the White House of politicizing the U.S. Census — of turning over the census to the administration.

Naturally, he’s been repeatedly insisting that the Bush administration never would’ve done such a thing. Yeah, as Limbaugh was trying to say the other day, the Bushies never ever politicized, edited, or tampered with important data. Especially the census.

Oh wait. From February, 2001:

[Bush Commerce Secretary Don Evans] Friday issued a rule that makes him the final arbiter over the hotly contested political issue of whether the initial population count is accurate or needs to be statistically adjusted. The move removes from the Census bureau the decision over whether to adjust the 2000 count to guard against an undercount of minorities and low income Americans.

Fish in a barrel.

Save your time and research. Any time those guys say ‘bush would never fill-in-the-blank’…then we know that bush did it.

Word right now is that the administration taking control of the census is the very reason Gregg ‘suddenly’ turned down the nomination.

I am truly confused. I thought there was nothing new about this: (via Sully):Kenneth Prewitt, who served as Census director from 1998 to 2001, said he worked with White House staff during the 2000 Census on budgeting, advertising and outreach efforts.*and*Other former Census directors agreed that coordination with the White House on budgeting and outreach was appropriate while data collection and analysis should be kept separate.So. If I reading all of this right, it’s more Republicans taking a huge gamble by putting all their chips on the “Obama fails” square, and spinning the wheel. Thing is, if they lose, it’s the end of the GOP.Or am I missing something?

Does anyone at any of the cable “news” shows do any kind of research? I mean, I know they have links to Drudge in their “Favorites” folder but, come on!

Yet another one…whatever the accusation against Obama, it’s like they are talking about themselves:”Both issues are part of an emerging GOP case against Obama and the ruling Democratic Party: Strip away the new face, the lofty rhetoric and the promises of post-partisanship and you’ll find the same big-spending party of old, bent on politicizing government to consolidate its hold on power.”Doesn’t that describe the last 8 years?

Cannot stand that show. Joe is so pompous. Especially for someone who is so often so wrong.Mika. How she could champion Palin is beyond me. And other than that and getting her brilliant father on the show, she is pretty much useless.Has her dad been back on since he called out Joe for being so ignorant of foreign policy?

Republicans know the Party’s over, but they’re to drunk on power to drive.
