The Republican Economic Strategy

Congressman Peter King, arguably one of the craziest of the crazy, was on Hardball today and Matthews asked him what he’d do if the recovery bill works and the economy improves.

Revealingly, King said (paraphrasing) that the question will be: Was the economy going to recover anyway?

And there you go.

A glimpse into the Republican mindset: the recovery bill is an epic fail irrespective of what happens with the economy. So tell me again why we needed to listen to them on this thing?

I’m sure the republicans realize they’re politically screwed if the economy improves. But if it doesn’t, they’ll say, hey we said it should just be tax cuts. Let us cut more and we’ll fix this economy. But that’s not gonna happen. This stimulus will work.

Aside from the frustration and fury, it is sad that they can’t be hopeful for Americans; that they can’t utter that even though they disagree and they would have done it differently that they hope for the sake of all of the people suffering that it affords the country some relief; that they have to game every situation like bullies, poor sports and ignorant fucks.

In the year 2009.7 …”Yes, the economy was going to recover. The Bush Economic Recovery, implemented in the last four months of his presidency, was working just fine until the Obama Recession hit. In fact, I think it’s obvious that the Democrat spending bill slowed down the recovery significantly…”

Correction: I wrote Steve King instead of Peter King. Fixed!

Holy shit. I just saw Rep. King on the repeat of Hardball. He really is a complete whacko. Tweety asks, “What happens if the economy recovers somewhat because of the stimulus bill?””Well, the debate will be whether the economy was already on it’s way to recovery before Barack Obama’s bill. Were the forces for economic recovery already in place?” Got that? They’ve come full circle with their circular logic, I guess. The fundamentals of the economy are strong. Why are these folks allowed to walk around completely unsupervised? They’re gonna drive to me start mixing alcohol and pills pretty soon…

I live on Long Island and Peter King represents a very heavily gerrymandered congressional district. In fact, it is so loopy that, on the map, the district is shaped like a barbell and extends from Nassau county into Suffolk county. Thankfully, I’m represented by Carolyn McCarthy, whom I’ve met and appears to be quite sane.He is very powerful and wins reelection handily. In fact, he is planning to run in 2010 for Clinton’s Senate seat.My wish is that he gives up his Congressional seat, it is won by a Democrat, and he loses the Senate election. There is some talk that he doesn’t have the juice to lure Independents outside his weight room.

Curly, I’ve seen the map of that district. ridiculous. Good luck on getting him out of there. It could happen!

Bob, I think your confusion was caused by the fact that one makes a living writing fictional stories, and the other make a living telling fictional stories.

Git,Maybe Alan Moore said it best in “V”: artists use lies to tell the truth; politicians use the truth to tell lies.
